On the Road with the Lantermans....week 4! In 1925, the Lantermans visited Brookdale, located in the San Lorenzo Valley in Santa Cruz County. They possibly stayed at Brookdale Lodge, a historic lodge on the site of an old lumber mill. In the 1920s, the lodge hosted Hollywood celebrities and other prominent people, including President Herbert Hoover. It also boasted first rate big band and swing groups. On the Road with the Lantermans...week 3. Sometime in the 1910s, the Lanterman family took an easy day trip to Riverside County to visit this historic site. Anyone recognize it? Located in Temecula, it is the tomb of one of the city founders: Louis Wolf (d.1887). He ran a country store and was a sheep and cattle rancher. Author Helen Hunt Jackson stayed with his family in 1882 and is thought to have modeled the character Ramona after Wolf's wife, Ramona.
