Lancaster Sheriff's Station 24.05.2021

When you think of a superhero, you think of someone who has super powers and can fly. Those type of heroes live in comic books. The heroes that do exist, live ...among us. They are our peace officers, who are normal people, who one day decided to make a difference; they fight crime, protect the public and do their best to make the world a safer place. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies wear the uniform with honor and know they have a responsibility to perform at the highest level even in critical moments. Our heroes don’t have powers, their gifts are: duty, compassion, courage, humility, bravery and selflessness. They take personal pride in being a part of the County of Los Angeles community. They are always ready to do the job and are not here for the accolades. Our #HometownHeroes wear a badge! #nationalsuperheroday #myherowearsabadge

Wondering if Sorry Sarge, I couldn’t come in to work today because I couldn’t find the station will work. Asking for a friend. In all seriousness, this thick fog is making visibility an all time low, so slow down and turn your headlights on so you can make it work safely. #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge #AVweather

Good Morning Antelope Valley! The rain is here to stay throughout the day today. Driving in the rain can be dangerous and it's important to take wet weather seriously when you're on the road. There are lots of things you can do to make driving in the rain safer, including being prepared by making sure your car is ready and ensuring you can always see properly. But most importantly, you have to drive according to the conditions, and adjust a few of your habits to avoid sliding..., skidding, or being involved in a collision. Here are a few of our favorite safety tips for driving in the rain. 1. Slow down. During any inclement weather or unfavorable driving conditions, your first reaction should always be to adjust your speed accordingly. Driving 50mph in the rain is not the same as driving 50mph on dry roads. SLOW DOWN. 2. Turn on your windshield wipers. Visibility is of the utmost importance, so make sure your wipers are in good working condition. 3. Turn your lights on. When it starts to rain, turn on your headlights immediately, regardless of whether it's day or night. California law requires drivers to turn some sort of headlights on (daytime running lights are ok) whenever you activate your windshield wipers. 4. Stay five seconds behind the car in front of you. Create space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you to allow yourself ample time and space to stop if need be. 5. Avoid slamming on the brakes. Slamming on the brakes can cause you to slide forward, and you won't be able to control the car. Instead, follow tip #4 and give yourself plenty of room to stop. Following a few simple safety tips and giving yourself a few extra minutes of driving time will increase your chances of arriving at your destination safely. Stay dry AV! #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge #rainydaysafetytips

This year was a different holiday season for us. After careful consideration, due to COVID restrictions and out of precaution, we decided not to do our annual toy drive. But that did not stop our community from showing up for our kids in need. Day after day, bags of toys were delivered to our front lobby. The more bags that came in, the more gifts we wrapped and the more families we called. Yesterday, we capped off a week of gift giving. With your incredible donations, we we...re able to adopt 3 local families that had been victims of crimes. We were also able to contribute gifts to our Special Victims Bureau, AV Seed and Grow and thanks to a very special young lady who handmade 100 pairs of earrings, we had gifts for the kids AND the moms at Valley Oasis. We could never do this without you Antelope Valkey. Thank you for your generosity throughout the year, but especially through this holiday season. #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge

E-cigarettes are now the most frequently used tobacco product among adolescents! More than 2.1 million middle and high school students used E-cigarettes in 2017. With vaping devices that look like USB drives and in "fun" flavors aimed at kids, usage of vape pens, E-cigs, E-pipes, Hookah pens and Vaporizers among teens is skyrocketting. What do parents need to know? 1. E-cigarettes contain high levels of nicotine. The nicotine content of one "pod" is equivalent to one pack of ...cigarettes. 2. Studies show nicotine is more addictive than heroin and cocaine. And there’s a growing body of evidence that nicotine can harm the developing adolescent brain. 3. While the sale of vaping supplies to teens is banned, kids can easily purchase items online. So what can parents do to prevent their kids from vaping? 1. Set a good example by being tobacco-free! 2. Talk to your child or teen about why e-cigarettes are harmful for them. 3. Encourage your child to learn the facts for themselves at www.teen.smokefree.gov. And as always, keep the lines of communication open with your tweens & teens. Don't let curiosity get the best of them, so speak openly to them, answer their questions and show your interest in their every day activities! #LASD #AV411 #redribbonweek #drugfreepledge

Lancaster Sheriff's Station continues to celebrate Red Ribbon Week! Today, we remind parents the importance of eating dinner as a family. Guardians who have high-quality relationships with their children, who are able to monitor their kids’ activities and who spend time more time with them on things like homework and outings are also those who are more likely to eat dinner with their children. A study printed in TIME magazine showed when researchers looked at teens at a sing...le point in time, they found that those who were eating five or more dinners a week with their families were 18% less likely to use drugs than teens who ate with their families on two or fewer evenings. Keep in mind family units are what you make of them: grandparents, aunts, uncle, mom and dad, dad and dad, friends that have become family. The key is to stay involved in your child's life and eating dinner is an easy way to do it. As busy as we all get, sometimes this can be more difficult. But try to carve some time out during the week and on weekends to have a family dinner. It could help your child gain the confidence and security to avoid using drugs. The more we all know! #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge #redribbonweek

Good Morning Antelope Valley! As we begin our Red Ribbon Week celebration, we encourage parents to have fun and engage with their young children by talking to them about the dangers of drug use. A simple, fun way to start is by printing out these Red Ribbon Week coloring sheets. Talk to your child about the different kinds of drugs and their negative effects. Be sure to include smoking, vaping and excessive alcohol use. Don't forget to include prescription medicine. Even if i...t's something a doctor gives you, taking too much or the wrong dose could be dangerous. Then, follow up with an action plan. After your child is done coloring the pages, have them write 2 or 3 things they would do if someone offers them drugs. "NO" in a loud voice and "Tell a trusted grown up" are a great place to start. Not every important conversation has to be scary. Open the dialogue, answer all of your little one's questions and have fun coloring today! #LASD #AV411 #RedRibbonWeek

Today, we begin our Red Ribbon Week celebration! The Red Ribbon Campaign is the largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the tradition of displaying red ribbons as a symbol of intolerance against the use of drugs. ... At Lancaster Sheriff's Station, we take Red Ribbon Week, October 23rd-October 31st, each year to help educate families and children about the dangers of drug use. While this year, we won't be able to join our awesome kids at their local schools, we encourage parents to celebrate Red Ribbon Week with us by speaking to their kids about drugs. Throughout the upcoming week, Lancaster Station will bring you printable coloring sheets, virtual activities, drug safety facts and tips on how to start this important conversation with kids of all ages, so be sure to stay tuned! #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge #redribbonweek

The DEA’s Take Back Day event provides an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tra...gic. That's why it was great to clean out your medicine cabinets and turn in - safely and anonymously - prescription drugs. The 2020 National Drug Take Back Day is TOMORROW, Saturday, October 24, 2020. Our friends at California Highway Patrol will be hosting a drive through only drop off at their Antelope Valley offices located at 2041 West Avenue I in Lancaster from 10am-2pm. Drive up, drop off your old, expired and unused vitamins and prescription medications. Please no sharps or liquids. Do your part in keeping your home, family and medicine cabinet safe! #LASD #AV411 #drugtakebackday www.deatakeback.com
