Aerosol is the big buzz word in dentistry right now. Although we don’t know for a fact if the virus travels in small aerosols or if it’s mainly in larger droplets ... it is still definitely a risk! Here are the ways we are reducing the aerosols in our treatment rooms. The dent air vac is wonderful at reducing extraoral aerosols. We have actually been using this for a year now! We mainly used it to keep us safe from mercury vapors but we will be using it more for aerosol pr...oducing procedures. The dryshield reduces aerosols intraorally, it also acts as a comfortable block so you can rest your mouth open on it. The Medify air filters are medical grade filters that filter down to .1 micron... the size of the coronavirus. We are Open! I made the call to shutdown our office for all non emergency treatment work 2 months ago. It was a difficult decision but we knew we had to do our part to flatten the COVID-19 curve. In these past two months I have called in more antibiotics for patients in pain and with infections than I did all year. It was so difficult for me to tell patients That the only way I could help them was a prescription for antibiotics and pain meds. As a dentist I love using my h...ands to restore teeth and take the pain awayand I was sad that I couldn’t do that. What struck me about the majority of the patients that called with emergencies is that these were pending dental issues for monthsand some even years. If I can say one thing... Dont wait!
