County of Lake Grants a Total of $96,582.28 to Area Senior Centers - Senior Centers Still Need Meals-on-Wheels Drivers LAKE COUNTY, CA (November 30, 2020) For... many of the nearly one quarter of Lake County residents aged 65 and above, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant simple things like acquiring food have required greater thought and planning. Four Lake County Senior Centers have stepped up to meet unprecedented needs. On Monday, November 30, the County of Lake delivered checks totaling $96,582.28 to these four Senior Centers, located throughout the county: * Lakeport Senior Center (provider of senior meal program services in the Lakeport, Kelseyville, Nice and Lucerne areas) was granted $28,687.59; * Middletown Senior Center received $20,000.00; * Live Oak Seniors, Inc. (Clearlake Oaks), $17,287.31; and * Highland Senior Services Center (Clearlake area) was awarded $30,607.38. We are very grateful to the Lake County Board of Supervisors for their decision to share [the County’s] CARES Act funds with Senior Centers, said Lake Family Resource Center and Lakeport Senior Center Executive Director, Lisa Morrow. These funds will facilitate much needed meal support for our most vulnerable community members during the COVID-19 health emergency. The need for Meals-on-Wheels Drivers has never been greater. If you can be available to help our Senior Centers deliver meals, please contact them today: * Highlands Senior Center, (707) 994-3051 * Lakeport Senior Center, (707) 279-0563 * Live Oak Seniors, Inc., (707) 998-1950 * Middletown Senior Center, (707) 987-3113 ###

A message from Linda Burton, one of our very talented Tai Chi instructors. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! After not taking any time off for vacations since the Shelter in place orders came out in March 2020, we have decided to take Thanksgiving week off for a well needed staycation. I will not be holding any Tai Chi classes Tuesday, November 24th, Thursday, November 26th, or Saturday, November 28th. Tai Chi classes will resume on Tuesday, December 1st at 9 am. Beginners classe...s will be at 11 am on Tuesdays and 9 am on Thursdays and Saturdays. Advanced classes will be at 9 am on Tuesdays and 11 am on Thursdays and Saturdays. Of course everyone is welcome at both classes. Also, with the continued increase in Covid cases it is more important than ever to boost our immune systems. Tai Chi can help with that. I want to encourage everyone to attend as many classes as possible in December. Attend all six classes I teach each week if you like. Don't worry about the donations in December. Consider it my Christmas gift to each of you. If you would like to attend classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays give Paul Samberg a call at 707-995-0823 for information on his classes. Below you will find zoom links for my classes. Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving. I'll see you in December. Linda 707-337-2441 Welcome to Tai Chi For Arthritis Classes in 2020! Hello Lake County Seniors! Here's your September update... We are currently delivering 2500+ frozen meals per week. From the Clearlake Rivieras to Kelseyville, Lakeport, Blue Lakes, Upper Lake, Lucerne to Paradise Cove; we are preparing, freezing and delivering meals at an unprecedented rate.... Peoples Services, Lake Family Resource Center employees, North Coast Opportunities employees, friends, friends of friends and family have all stepped up to bring meals to our Senior community and we can never thank them enough. A very special thank you to our friends at ParaTransit and LakeTransit. They have been providing 9-12 buses with drivers on a weekly basis for some time now. Their regular bus schedule is beginning to pick up and availability of buses and driver's will soon become an issue. Also, it's been a real struggle to continue find available volunteers to ride the buses and deliver the meals. Due to covid restrictions, volunteers need to be under 60. The necessary early morning hours prevent many "Under 60" working community members from volunteering. To this end, we are transitioning to a "Drive-up" meal distribution for those clients who are not truly homebound. We sincerely thank those who have called to make arrangements to pick up, or have their meals picked up. Our Meals Coordinator has been working overtime to streamline the drive-up experience. Drive up hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10:30am to 1:30pm. Please contact Marcella for a convenient pick up time. Then, simply pull up to the glass doors and a volunteer will come out to assist you. Masks and gloves will be worn for your protection. Please wear a mask for our protection if you exit your vehicle. It will take some time to get the process running smoothly, and your patience is greatly appreciated. We are grateful to have Ability Road on board to seal our meals at the center. A huge shout out goes to the dedicated staff at the Lucerne Senior Center for all they do. Thank you for your support during these trying times. The Lakeport Senior Center remains closed for now. Only essential workers and volunteers are allowed in as an effort to keep the homebound clients we serve as safe as possible. My staff and I look forward to the day when we can welcome everyone back. We are entertaining all sorts of ideas for a grand reopening. Stay safe! Comments and suggestions are always welcome. 263-4218 Denise
