Celebrate Women’s History Month!

Belle Davidson's work preserving history resulted in the foundation and opening of the first Lake County Museum in 1936. Bringing the idea to the Board of Supe...rvisors in the fall of 1932, Ms. Davidson worked along with the County Federation of Women's Clubs, an organization focused on education and community improvement. Through this, Ms. Davidson provided a base of support, both financially and in personnel. Initially, Ms. Davidson simply wanted permission from the county to collect at no expense to the county. The board approved the starting of a museum, so long as there was no financial cost. Eventually, the Museum served as an educational tool and had enough traffic that County of Lake was petitioned to take over the management of the Museum to allow the building to be open to the public during the week.
