Do you wonder how you can help those in our community who are homeless or insecure in their housing? Tuesday night, January 18, at 5:45 pm., the Lake Tahoe United Methodist Church will be hosting a presentation via zoom, informing people of how we can all help. Cathie Foley will lead this presentation to share about a ministry the church has supported since the pilot season in 2015. Come hear about the North Tahoe-Truckee Homeless Services vision: To provide safety-net s...ervices and end homelessness in the North Tahoe-Truckee region, one person at a time. Learn a bit, ask questions and brainstorm on how we as a church and community can support our most vulnerable neighbors. There are a multitude of ways we can each help. It’s a perfect day for sledding, hot chocolate, grilled cheese and cupcakes for the birthday of Jesus. Come on by the Lake Tahoe United Methodist Church today from 3-6 to enjoy all of this plus Christmas music and fellowship. Sledding on the hill is always welcome and we need some help getting it packed down for prime sledding, so feel free to come by anytime to sled! We have spare sleds too! The entrance and parking lot are on the corner of Bear and Cutthroat. We look forward to seeing/meeting you today.

A PRAYER FOR PALM SUNDAY Lord, you set your face towards Jerusalem knowing what lay ahead. Be our vision that we too may walk the way of the cross and walk alon...gside those who suffer regardless of the risk. Lord, you stopped to heal the sick, cure the lame and give sight to the blind. Be our vision that we too may notice the marginalized and respond to their needs. Lord, you said, "The first shall be last and the last first." Be our vision that we too may humbly work towards your reign when the exalted will be brought low and the lowly exalted. Lord, you took time to pray and time to be silent. Be our vision that through our prayer we too may draw closer to you and find the strength to follow your will. Lord, you entered Jerusalem in a spirit of love and peace envisioning a new world. Be our vision and give us eyes to see where we have wandered from your path of love, justice, and peace and the boldness to lead others to your will. Amen.

My brothers and sisters, what good is it if people say they have faith but do nothing to show it? Claiming to have faith can’t save anyone, can it? Imagine a brother or sister who is naked and never has enough food to eat. What if one of you said, Go in peace! Stay warm! Have a nice meal!? What good is it if you don’t actually give them what their body needs? In the same way, faith is dead when it doesn’t result in faithful activity. James 2:14-17

Nadia Bolz-Weber, Lutheran pastor and author offered this reflection recently. I do not know when we can gather together again in worship, Lord. So, for now I just ask that: When I sing along in my kitchen to each song on Stevie Wonder’s Songs in The Key of Life Album, that it be counted as praise. (Happy 70thBirthday, SW!) And that when I read the news and my heart tightens in my chest, may it be counted as a Kyrie. And that when my eyes brighten in a smile behind my mask as I thank the cashier may it be counted as passing the peace. And that when I water my plants and wash my dishes and take a shower may it be counted as remembering my baptism. And that when the tears come and my shoulders shake and my breathing falters, may it be counted as prayer. And that when I stumble upon a Tabitha Brown video and hear her grace and love of you may it be counted as a hearing a homily. And that as I sit at that table in my apartment, and eat one more homemade meal, slowly, joyfully, with nothing else demanding my time or attention, may it be counted as communion.
