Happy FriYAY seafari. Viz was decent and the water was warm, even when diving down to get a better look at the creatures The sea puppies were just as playful today as they were on Wednesday

Saw two encounters like this this week. Two male Sheepshead bass sparring. I imagine they are figuring out ownership rights to territory or mates, or practicing... for it. Who do you think won? Take the poll. Sheephead fish are a large member of the wrasse family of fish species. Larger Sheephead fish are called "Goats" of Southern California. Sheephead fish have a limited range primarily in the southern half of California and Northern Baja. These fish live in rocks in approximately 60-200 feet of water and can live up to 20 years and reach a maximum size of around 30 - 40lbs. They have large, protruding teeth used to crush the crustaceans, mollusks and hard-shellfish they feed on. All sheephead start out female and pink, then develop that distinct black and red coloring with the white goatee when they mature and turn male at about 7 to 8 years.

A day off from school prompted a seafari to LJS. The Marine Room was amazing, complete with So Many Leopards, butterfly(?) rays and the elusive and quite colorful Mirafish . No better way anywhere, anytime to spend a day.

Sea lion craziness has officially started at the Coronado Islands, one of my favorite times of the year to dive. Conditions made for challenging pictures but here are a few from last week.

Viz was all over the place today 3-5ft inside the cove with lots of suspended particulate, clearing up to an aquarium at the 1/4 stick. It got smoggy again towards Devil’s Slide, but cleared up by the white wall. Loved swimming into lots of friends today
