Los Angeles Regional Food Bank 28.04.2021

The LA Regional #FoodBank is incredibly grateful to fight hunger with more than 700 partner agencies across LA County, including the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry. Recently, Jane Poole, their co-director, spoke with us about adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic. She describes serving more than 38,000 people in 2020 alone, distributing between 320-360 bags per week of canned soup, beans, bread, produce, and more. Most of this food is sourced from the Food Bank, along with local donations. Read more about the Interfaith Food Pantry: https://www.lafoodbank.org//local-non-profit-stays-commit/.

Millions of American families are facing poverty due to the economic consequences of the pandemic, yet misconceptions still persist about what that means. Poverty exists across the country, from central cities to suburbs, and affects most Americans firsthand. In fact, 59% of Americans will spend at least one year below the poverty line. America’s poor are also more likely to experience food insecurity than those in other Western industrialized countries. Learn more about poverty via Washington Post https://wapo.st/3fLmLpX

Thursday, March 18th, 2021, the Food Bank held its 100th COVID-19 relief food distribution in partnership with LA County. As unemployment remains high, this milestone reminds us that the economic impacts of COVID-19 are from over. Many families attending recent distributions have never sought food assistance before. The #FoodBank is proud to stand with all of you to help support our neighbors and work towards a healthier LA County by fighting hunger. The past year has proven the strength and resilience of our community, as well as the care, love and kindness that can persist even in the face of hardship and tragedy. An article by the Los Angeles Times inspired a partnership with the Los Angeles Regional #FoodBank. "As a result of the partnership, Tang said, in July and August alone, the Food Bank was able to distribute more than one million cases of food to its partners; each case contained multiple boxes of pre-labeled food that recipients could pick up at drive-through sites." Fighting food insecurity takes everyone to step up and we are so grateful for such a supportive community and for UCLA Anderson School of Management. While COVID-19 surges all over the world and in Los Angeles County, many of our neighbors are struggling with food insecurity. The LA Regional #FoodBank helps nearly one million of our neighbors each month. This food recipient picks up food for herself and her elderly neighbors. They need the food because their jobs have been put on hold; one of her friends is unable to work because of underlying conditions and her sister is out of work because the airline industry has been impacted severely by the pandemic. She is thankful for the volunteers and the work the #FoodBank does to provide nutritious food to those who need it. Thanksgiving means different things for different families. Everyone has their own special traditions. For many children, holiday breaks mean sleeping in, having fun and enjoying lots of their favorite foods. For children in food-insecure homes, a break from school means the loss of school meals, and it's hard to be happy when you're hungry. Show us what Thanksgiving means to you. This holiday season, consider making a tax-deductible gift to help feed families, children, seniors and more of our neighbors in need. Together, #WeFeedLA. https://secure.lafoodbank.org//Donation2;jsessionid=000000
