According to Stop AAPI Hate, since March 2020 there have been over 3700 anti-Asian hate incidents reported. This number represents only a fraction of the number of hate incidents that have actually occurred. The act of domestic terrorism in GA this week was not an isolated incident. It is a result of ongoing unchecked violence against the AAPI community and a deeply rooted history of anti-Asian racism in this country. As an organization that recognizes that all forms of v...iolence and oppression are connected, we remain committed to working toward an end to discrimination, anti-immigration bias and the structural racism that allows these acts of violence to continue. #ActionAlert The Senate recently released its appropriations bills, and the bill that funds the Department of Justice contains a MASSIVE 40% cut to the Victims ...of Crime Act (VOCA) release. This is on top of a 25% cut the prior year. All told, if the Senate gets its way, VOCA victim service grants will have been cut 74% over the last two years. The situation is dire! Recent reports of forced hysterectomies in Georgia and the failure of ICE detention centers across the nation to provide detained people adequate COVID-19 protection exemplify how ICE detention centers continue to disregard migrants' basic human dignity. LACLJ joins the American Immigration Lawyers Association in calling on Congress for an immediate investigation into conditions and medical care at ICE detention centers following the disturbing news reports. We must take act...ion to not allow these human rights violations to continue any longer. Photo Credit: NPR https://www.npr.org//whistleblower-alleges-medical-neglect
