When the police arrived, he told them was looking to his left before the crash as he was trying to change lanes. The police placed him at fault for the collision. He declined any medical treatment at the scene and said he was not injured. After the crash, he continued to live his life as a MMA fighter and trainer even though he had neck pain. He underwent a cervical spine surgery two and half years after the crash despite continuing to train and teach MMA and suffering a broken hand while sparring in the months leading up to surgery.
