Great decision from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals basically saying that convictions of methamphetamine will no longer be considered convictions of a drug offense for immigration purposes. All the bad immigration consequences that can flow from a drug conviction will not occur if the drug involved was methamphetamine. If you or someone you know was deported based on a conviction for meth, they may be able to re-open their case and return to the U.S.

The family of the college student Mollie Tibbetts murdered by (allegedly) an immigrant has come out strongly against the anti-immigrant fervor stirred up by Trump. The Des Moines Register reports that Tibbetts' father said he encountered Hispanics at Mexican restaurants and elsewhere who were sensitive and kind during the weeks he spent in the central Iowa community of Brooklyn to help search for his daughter. "The Hispanic community are Iowans. They have the same values as Iowans," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, they're Iowans with better food."

An immigrant in Iowa was accused of murdering a college student this week. Trump has seized on this crime to whip up anti-immigrant hysteria. Whether or not it turns out the accused is here illegally or not is irrelevant. Of course immigrants commit crimes. So do US citizens. Horrible crimes occur all the time. How many murders have been committed by US citizens in the last week? The fact is that studies show that immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than non-immigrants. So if you are standing in an arena surrounded by 10,000 immigrants you should feel safer than if you are in the same arena with 10,000 non-immigrants. Selecting one crime committed by an immigrant in order to condemn all immigrants is illogical and designed purely to provoke an irrational, emotional response.
