Ernesto Mazar Kindelán, from Santiago de Cuba began performing with the Grammy-nominated Charanga Habanera in 2006 while studying at the prestigious Instituto Nacional de Arte in Havana. When he graduated with a degree in Classical Double Bass and Performance and Teaching, the band played a legendary concert at his senior recital, to the envy of his classmates. Ernesto toured internationally, contributed arrangements, and recorded studio albums with Charanga Habanera for 8 years, gaining recognition as one of the best young bassists in Cuba. Since arriving in the US, he has performed with fellow bass great Kai Eckhardt, Bobi Céspedes, Jesus Diaz y su QBA, Pedrito Martinez, La India, David Sanchez, Karl Perazzo, Rebeca Mauleón, Chucho Valdés, Meklit Hadero, and Cubanismo. As a trained classical double bassist and a disciple of Feliciano Arango, Juan Formell, John Patitucci, and Dave Holland, Ernesto displays excellent technique across the whole family of basses (electric, upright, and baby bass), with a unique approach to each instrument. Ernesto is a powerful, rhythmic player who brings an unbelievable amount of energy on stage and radiates love of music.
