Approximately two score, plus or minus some other math ago, human powered art triathlon enthusiasts would be excitedly waking up for a glorious race weekend. From 1974 - 1982 The Cross Country Kinetic Challenge (one of the many names for the event at the time) happened on Easter weekend rain or shine, but mostly rain. Photo, Art by Matt O'Brien for the 2004 Kinetic Egg-stravaganza; not a Kinetic Easter event, but one of the many from our history that include eggs, which are synonymous with the holiday, and chickens, like our mascot Glory.

The Kinetic Universe family is grateful to the City of Eureka for all of the art & community opportunities we're able to get involved with! Thanks to an anonymous sponsor, KME had the honor of being chosen to participate in the Eureka Window Poetry Program. Artist Brandi Beeman created a piece of art to pair with Barbara Brinson Curiel's poem "5 Directions to My House."... "Citizens can support the project by touring the community and checking out these pieces and developing more creative ways to express Eureka's resiliency through window art. Window art is a safe way to express yourself during COVID-19, lifting spirits while doing something the entire neighborhood can enjoy." Walk by the Kinetic Museum and check out the new art and ever-changing Kinetic window displays! For the Glory! #ResilientEureka

Happy birthday to our favorite Pisces, and Glorious Founder, Hobart Brown! "I was born under the sign of Pisces, with a Sagittarius rising and a Leo moon -- so that kinda tells you the story about me. Sagittarius makes me an adventurer, Pisces an artist, and Leo makes me wanna tell you about it." - HB

Ahoy from the Kinetic Museum! Captain Chuck, and USS Yellow Submarine crew, Trent and Tony, stopped by to check out the place, while on R & R (or lunch for some of them.) and left their craft and uniforms behind! Since it's last race in 2002 the Yellow Sub has been converted to race Rails! ... While the body is the original (new 90s) sub, the mechanics underneath are new-er-ish. Finding the original - original sub is another adventure. Well let you know if it surfaces. (See what we did there? ) - While filming for the virtual New Years party, Queens Robot and Monica mentioned to eachother that the space could really benefit from something large and yellow to brighten up the place. That's some Glorious manifesting superpower!

Open Letter to the Kinetic Community Subject: In Person Kinetic Grand Championship Cancelled for 2021 Kinetic Universe places the highest value on the health a...nd wellbeing of our kinetic family, which includes not only builders, racers, peons and pit crews, but also the many dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors and supporters, and our many thousands of fans. The threat of harm from COVID-19 is all too clear and continues to impact all facets of our lives. Even though vaccines are beginning to be distributed, all indications are that widespread vaccination and herd immunity will not be achieved until perhaps the end of the year. While we hope for earlier relief from the pandemic, it takes months of effort to plan for the race and we believe it is important to act early and prudently. After consulting with Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services, we have determined that it is in the best interest of public health to cancel the in person Memorial Day (May 29, 30, and 31st, 2021) Kinetic Grand Championship race. There is no glory in cancelling this beloved event for the second year in a row and we take this unprecedented precaution out of a sense of care for the kinetic community. Though we are not planning an in person race this year, we will be keeping the spirit of kinetics alive with virtual events. We look forward to collaborating with those of you able to contribute your ideas, talents, time, and love of the race so that we may celebrate kinetic glory safely in 2021 and continue building our great tradition.
