One issue I have with cardiac prevention programs is the emphasis on fasting numbers. We should be looking at what is happening after you eat. There have been... several randomized control trials that have looked at this. I can feed you tons of sugar but no inflammation results; however, as soon as you eat a fatty meal there is immediate inflammation similar to if you had an infection. Measures of blood vessel show that their ability to relax is blocked. And if you spin the blood you find, obviously, lots more fat and more sticky blood cells. Eating slower appears to reduce overall calorie consumption (http://bit.ly/1QAkpW3), as does replacing high calorie-density foods with low calorie-density foods....
