Droppin’ a with this one! If you’re a client of mine, you’ve probably heard me say that there’s soooooo much grey area in nursing! Wanna only nurse? Awesome! Wanna just pump? More power to ya! Wanna do something in the middle? Sure! What’s important is that baby is being provided with perfect milk. The biggest times these concerns come up: when baby is born (I had to supplement in the hospital so now I have to combo feed forever!) and weaning (I’ve stopped pum...ping while away from baby so I need to stop nursing too). Our bodies are smarter than we give them credit for, and they can adapt to any level of expression or nursing! Every drop provided for your baby is beneficial! **One TEASPOON of breastmilk contains as many as 3 MILLION germ-killing cells in it! ** Wanna figure out how you can best provide breastmilk for your babe? I can help! #worldbreastfeedingweek #kimbrolactation #ibclc #lactationconsultant #breastfeedingtips #breastfeeding #breastfeeding #educateencourageempower

Sore or damaged nipples!? OUUUCCCHHHH! Anyone who’s dealt with this (most often caused by a poor latch) has also probably desperately Googled the best remedy - and I betcha air drying came up in your search! This is an outdated recommendation for the treatment of damaged nipples! Has it worked for countless women? For sure! Is it the most effective and evidence based? NOPE! Countless studies have shown that wounds heal best in a moist environment - this means keep...ing damaged nipples covered and moist with some kind of topical treatment when not pumping, feeding, or showering. (Think about the healing difference a band-aid and ointment make on a badly scraped knee.) My favorite is a breastmilk/nipple ointment combo with a small cling wrap square to cover! Regardless of how you heal: ointments, balms, pads, gels, soaks, etc are NOT a replacement or quick fix for a poor latch! Meet with an IBCLC to troubleshoot the source of your nipple damage, because pain isn’t normal. #worldbreastfeedingweek #kimbrolactation #ibclc #lactationconsultant #breastfeedingtips #breastfeeding #breastfeedingsupport #educateencourageempower #sorenipples

Next myth busted! One of the most common concerns from parents: low milk supply. Most common recommendation from the internet or Facebook groups: drink more (like waaaayyyy too much ). FACT: drinking more water than you need will only make you run to the bathroom a million times a day. What parent has time for that!? Not me! FACT: if you are *dehydrated* then drinking more water will increase your milk supply, because you are in a hydration deficit. But adding m...ore water to make more milk? Nope So let’s stop the constant bathroom breaks and stick to this guideline: drink when baby drinks and drink to thirst. Getting a fun cup or water bottle, adding some or flavoring, or setting a on your phone can all help you increase your fluid intake. #worldbreastfeedingweek #lactationconsultant #ibclc #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingmamas #educateempowerencourage #kimbrolactation

Did you know that #colostrum is baby’s perfect first milk, and you have PLENTY of it?! In fact, your body starts producing colostrum around week 10-14 of pregnancy (when the placenta takes over hormonal control of the pregnancy). That’s right, WEEK 14 OF PREGNANCY. Frequent nursing sessions (no such thing as too often!) - or pumping in the event of a non-latching baby - in the first few days tells your body to kick up production. Frequent feeding also ensures baby’s teeny tummy gets frequently refilled - and don’t worry, you won’t run out of colostrum before your milk increases in volume. #worldbreastfeedingweek #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingtips #chestfeeding #lactationconsultant #ibclc

#challengeaccepted thank you @immalactation for the nomination. This is my daughter June and our first latch together after a whirlwind of a VBAC. No matter how our babies meet us earthside, the strength required is immeasurable. May we not only see that in each other, but champion it. Everyone does better when everyone does better. #breastfeeding #breastfeedingeducation #breastfeedingadvocate #lactationsupport #kimbrolactation #educateencourageempower

Separating baby and CoVID+ mother after birth is not evidence based and can have serious implications on breastfeeding and long term health!
