One of the most difficult truths I’ve been entrusted by God with is to serve my patients with an abundance of love, healing, compassion and kindness. Why most difficult ? Because today I had to deliver the most horrible news to one of my new patients. I immediately knew in my gut what his diagnosis would be : Cancer. I performed my neurological exam, othopedic exam, chiropractic exam, complete physical exam including detailed history. The process took over an hour. W...hen all was said and done I referred him out immediately for X-rays. Sure enough, occult fracture of his atlas. Today we followed up with a CT scan. Yup, Metastatic Cancer of his spine. Next step Primary doctor will order a PET scan. Here is the part that makes me so ANGRY : He just had lab work with his primary care doctor for a cyst in his elbow which they said was an infection....gave him antibiotics and noted the elevated white blood cells but NEVER followed up!!!!! He’s been in SEVERE pain since September !!!! Thank God I was the last resort because his mom is a patient and begged him to come see me. So not only am I ANGRY but damn well PISSED off that the medical profession of our small town could do such a dis-service and yet they call us chiropracTORS quacks !!! When I called to make the referral to his Primary Care Doctor at AMG, the receptionist asked if this was a true emergency and I said yes!!! When I explained the situation she inquired about who I was and why I wasn’t treating. I explained this is out of the scope of my practice ( trust me I stay in my lane) and her response : Oh you’re a chiropractor. I bit my tongue because I wanted to give her a piece of my mind. In 17 years I’ve only ever had one other patient pass away. Needless to say this is NOT sitting well with me tonight. I know I’ve been called to do this work. HIS work Atwater/Merced medical profession I’ve got one thing to say: I will NOT stand by and watch you provide your version of healthcare which should be considered NEGLIGENCE !!!
