Our latest contribution to the Kern Business Journal highlights the support Kern Community Foundation received this summer from interns Bridgette Berry and Leyda Patino, who helped with work related to the production of our #CommunityGivingGuide, set to publish next month. Leyda and Bridgette participated in the Bank of America #StudentLeaders Program, where they received a wage for their labor, while also acquiring work and leadership skills through a series of virtual meetings and workshops. Thanks for your help, girls! And thank you, #BankofAmerica! Happy reading!

HAPPY PHILANTHROPY FRIDAY! Today we would like to introduce the newest member of Kern Community Foundation's team, Cristina Camacho who has been assisting us part time since the end of July and will begin her full-time assignment as the Foundation’s Community Network Coordinator on Monday, Nov. 2. Cristina will be involved in our convening and outreach work around the Kern Connected Community Network (KCCN), which engages medical and social-service providers with a state-of-t...he-art electronic platform to provide seamless referrals for vulnerable populations in order to improve health outcomes. She will also assist with communication and outreach efforts around the B3K Prosperity Initiative, a public-private collaboration to develop a roadmap and investment plan for economic growth and inclusion in Kern County. For the last two years, Cristina, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, worked as the Regional Census Campaign Manager for NALEO Education Fund, helping with get-out-the-count and voter engagement efforts among Latinos in Kern, Tulare, Kings and Fresno Counties in California, and also pitching in with NALEO’s census efforts targeting Latino communities in Missouri and Colorado. Cristina has a Bachelor’s degree in Business with emphasis in Marketing from California State University, Bakersfield. She was a Marketing Intern at GET Bus during her college years. She has also worked as a Community Outreach Specialist for Community Action Partnership of Kern, and her prior experience as a Medical Assistant at Proximity MD Urgent Care will be an asset in her work with the KCCN. HAVE YOU BEEN FOLLOWING THE B3K "BUZZ"? A number of community leaders have been sharing their thoughts in #CommunityVoices submissions to The Bakersfield Californian recently about "B3K Prosperity: A Better Bakersfield & Boundless Kern - Regional Action for Economic Prosperity." B3K is a locally grown and driven initiative that brings together stakeholders from throughout Bakersfield and Kern (leaders in government, business and civic organizations) to develop an action plan ...for the future economy of our region. With Kern Community Foundation as a convener, and benefiting from guidance and support from The Brookings Institution, B3K is looking carefully at regional needs and opportunities that can lead to the creation of better paying quality jobs and a more diversified economy for our area. The goal is prosperity for all Bakersfield and Kern residents. Visit the B3K Prosperity Facebook page using the link below to learn more and to read some of the B3K "Buzz"! See more
