I always knew there was a reason I loved kombucha so much.

First image: #biceps Second image: #triceps Please realize that shoulder #pain isn’t always just about #rotatorcuff pain. There are other major structures of the arm that tether themselves to the #scapula, as shown in these images. Over or under toned muscles, imbalance in training, or connective tissue overgrowth can all lead to shoulder pain that have nothing to do with the shoulder capsule but can feel like the pain is in there. Also note that the biceps wrapping themselves around the #radius and #ulna means that doing work on the forearm can help relieve pulling on the scapula. This is why deep knowledge of #anatomy is vitally important for a therapist because they can draw on their understanding of body architecture to work on areas that seem obscure or non-intuitive. Today I want to thank @nhkworldjapan for providing beautiful programming for the world, and on topics that no other outlet can produce with so much humor and good spirit. Just last week they had a special on a topic that typically would interest only the elderly, but with so much humor and variety, they managed to make their program attractive for everyone. Thank you #nhkworld for the sanity you bring. I wish everyone watched your shows and calmed themselves to bed like I do.

A beautiful letter from #hakkoryu headquarters wishing practitioners around the world a happy new year. . It’s the eightieth anniversary of Hakkoryu, and I look back at my trip there five years ago with fondness and longing. I received my #shihan degree that year (second woman in the US) and made some amazing memories with @achkhen . Here is to hoping for relief from the pandemic soon, and open and welcoming borders throughout the world. When you feel the need to seek therapy, whether it's massage, chiropractic, physical therapy, or conditioning, make sure you hire someone that connects the dots for you. Do not settle for someone who gives you something simplistic or does mindless work. If your therapist is good, you'll know from what they teach you during your session. As a manual therapist, I feel there is a sea of information to absorb and I take two to three workshops per year to stay up to date with my eduction. It's a big financial investment that pays off when I pass on the wealth of knowledge to my clients. I the for them.

Most of my clients, before seeing me, report never having been touched in an informed and caring manner in the abdominal area. It's a vulnerable spot in the body that makes both therapists and clients reluctant to approach. But I believe everyone intuitively knows just how much of our daily struggles the belly holds, and how important it is for experienced hands to be able to explore it and put it at ease. My first reaction to these kinds of discoveries is always, Here we go again... humans... But this one feels different. This one has an air of positivity about it. Outside of health sciences (which is what everyone thinks of first), we have so many problems--man made ones--that we need to rectify. I’m really hoping that this new discovery will lay the grounds for resolving the huge issues that we’re facing, including global warming. Watch the videos in there. They're pretty informative.

As we close this year and look forward to the next, I want to also take a moment to remember all the blessings that we have had throughout the many months of staying home with our loved ones. I will never forget the unwavering love, support and companionship of those closest to me. Even though I lost my beautiful dog Charlie this month, I choose to remember that he helped us get through some of the most difficult days we’ve ever faced while quarantined. . I also feel extremely lucky that I still have my practice. KENZEN will remain open, and I look forward to connecting with your body/mind/spirit in 2021. . Cheers!

The perks of working from home... You can put your head down and take a little nap. Don't take it for granted that this is a privilege you have while you're at home. Skip the afternoon coffee and treat yourself to what your body really needs: a little shut eye to rejuvenate. Learn to appreciate your body's needs and your body will reward you with better productivity.

Every Sunday, I’m going to post about something I appreciate, no matter how big or small. @momsbestcereal makes the best granola cereal I’ve ever had. Those who eat gluten free know what a struggle it is sometimes to find a good breakfast item. Pour a little of your favorite milk and enjoy! And unlike wheat based cereals, you don’t get hungry an hour later. ... . . . . . #delicious #sunday #sundaybreakfast #breakfast #healthyfood #glutenfree #glutenfreevegan #glutenfreediet #healthygut via @hashtagexpert See more

Let’s talk feet. Female feet. Females have been sold a specific image that is basically planned for them since the day they are born. Females have to live with a male-dominated society making long-term decisions for them in all aspects of life, especially their appearance. When a male designer such as Christian Louboutin becomes famous for the shoes he designs, one has to wonder: is he designing for the woman or for the man that looks at the woman?... Young women with beautiful feet force their toes into pointy shoes, the high heels push the toes even further forward, and because of flexed toes, the entire weight of the body is exerted on the ball of the foot instead of being dissipated through the three arches of the foot. Then they stand pigeon toed to look young and playful and this goes on for hours, either during social outings or at work. In just a few years, beautiful young feet become deformed with hammer toes, clawed toes, bruises and scars, and oops!, suddenly those feet are not so sexy for the men that fell in love with them just a couple of years back. Now what? The best course of action, of course, is to do away with high heels and pointy shoes. Those who are suffering from their feet gradually going through changes have to counter the shape of their shoes by manually pulling toes apart, stretching and releasing the tissues that have become short and bunched up, and doing strengthening exercises for the toes. Walking around barefoot to let the toes engage with the ground is also a great way to give the feet a break. In my practice, everyone gets a basic toe releasing sequence whether they ask for it or not! I am a firm believer in high functioning feet being the foundation of good health. See more
