This makes freezers run a lot trying to keep those temps down ! I have a few tips to help those freezers survive the heat and help keep the energy bills down . Tip #1 ... Freezers release the heat they produce from the sides (upright freezers sides and top ) . It’s important to keep the sides and top free of clutter . Give it a little room to breathe ! Tip#2 Freezers only need to cool to zero degrees . They were designed that way . The food in your freezer does not require any colder that that . Colder than zero degrees is wasted energy . Set it to zero , if you have a turn knob unit set it to half way . If it goes up to seven ( most freezers ) set it to 4 . Tip#3 If you freezer is not full , fill it up ! The more full ( not overstuffed) the more efficient it becomes . If you don’t have food to fill the void spaces use 2 liter bottles or milk jugs full of water . Tip#4 Lastly keep that door seal clean . A clean door seal holds tighter and lasts longer . Here we go more tips to help you maintain your appliances !! FRONT LOAD CLOTHES WASHERS They have a bad reputation for smelly odors . With regular maintenance you can fix and prevent the issue . ... You will need DISTILLED WHITE VINEGAR , an old TOOTHBRUSH , and BLEACH . Step 1 spray vinegar on the door boot . Pull back the rubber especially on the bottom to get it nice and wet . Let it soak for a few minutes. Step 2 use a toothbrush to scrub the dirtiest parts of that boot . If you pull back the rubber as shown in the picture the most important part to brush will be the drain holes sometimes square sometimes round . You can use a toothpick to clear debris out of those holes . You can wipe out the remaining parts of the boot . Wipe out as much gunk as you can with a paper towel . Step 2 spray and wipe down the inner door area with vinegar. Step 3 is to clean out your filter . Have you never done that consult , your owners manual . Step 4 pull out your soap dispenser tray spray and clean that with vinegar. Don’t forget you should also clean the cavity the dispenser sits in . It’s another place mold can grow . Step 5 now it’s time to start the washer , select a heavy cycle and the hottest water temp . Let the machine fill and begin wash , then pause the wash to unlock the door . You need 2 cups of vinegar, pour right at the door boot where the drain holes are and into the machine . Close the door and restart to complete the cycle . The distilled vinegar is used to help break up buildup that’s in your washer and to deodorize . Step 6 now we want to disinfect and kill any mold and bacteria . Repeat step 5 but instead of vinegar you need 2 cups of bleach ( careful not to splash) . Complete step 5 and that’s it’s you are done Tip 7 So why does this happen you ask . It’s simply due to standing water . After every wash if you shut the door completely, it traps that moisture not allowing it to evaporate. If the water sits it will start to stink , and the issue will gradually get worse and worse . So leave that door cracked open after every wash and it will reduce the tendency for this to happen . One last note , if your washer had lots of buildup and really stinks it may need multiple cleanings . Otherwise you should do this maybe once or twice a year . Also wash a load periodically with hot water the heat can help reduce buildup too.

Thanks John and Kristine ! Their house was struck by a bolt of lightning! It wiped out some TVs and their brand new washer . Glad to help them get the washer going again , sorry I don’t fix TVs .

Ever feel like your dishwasher is dirtier than your dishes ? Follow these tips help get rid of the scum in your dishwasher . Step 1 run hot water to your sink , then START your empty dishwasher on heavy duty cycle . If you have hot wash or sanitize options , select those before starting . Step 2 SET a timer for 15 minutes. ... Step 3 When 15 minutes have passed OPEN your dishwasher door and POUR 2 cups of distilled vinegar into the wash water . Step 4 CLOSE the door and PUSH start again to continue the cycle . That’s it . Distilled vinegar acid can help loosen buildup that may be in your pump assembly or overall interior . Often that buildup is caused by a poor detergent , or a detergent that does not work well in your machine . Buildup is often mistaken for hard water because it can be thick and white in color . Regular maintenance such as this can improve your wash quality and brighten up your dishes .
