UPDATE: The hose has all been taken. Thank you! We have about 12 rolls of various size out of service fire hose that is free to anybody that wants to pick it up. Works great for dock siding or any sort of rub protection!

Here is a great demonstration of our own FireBlast live fire training trailer at a recent training in Williams. Funding from the California State Firefighters Association allows our burn trailer to train new firefighters all over the state in a controlled live fire environment.

It’s been a long time since station 56 had to hand shovel the apron to safely get the engine out! Be extremely cautious driving in these conditions, as not all side streets have been cleared of snow and ice!

Burn permit information: With the county burn ban being lifted, burn permits are now available for purchase at our downtown station located at 4020 Main st. Permits are $28 check or cash with exact change. As a reminder, the online permits purchased through Cal Fire are not valid for residents located in the Kelseyville Fire District boundaries. You must obtain a paper copy directly from the station prior to burning.

In addition to the previous post, there has been some confusion about burn permits offered online through CalFire. Those online permits are NOT valid in the Kelseyville Fire District. You will still be required to purchase a paper copy permit directly from the Main Street station once the burn ban is lifted.

In regards to the numerous calls we are receiving about burn permits: At this point, burn permits are still not being issued in Lake County. Additionally, the individual Fire districts have no control over when the burn ban is lifted. The decision is made by the Lake County Air Quality District and generally coincides with CalFire declaring an end to Fire season. We do not have any estimates as to when this may occur.

Don’t forget basic kitchen safety this Thanksgiving! 1) Turn all cooking handles towards the back, so children cannot grab them. 2) Ensure turkey fryers are used outside, filled to the appropriate level, and the turkey is completely thawed. 3) Test all smoke detectors prior to cooking.... 4) Have a fire extinguisher handy in the Kitchen. We love the residents of Kelseyville, but Thanksgiving is one of the days we don’t want to have to visit you!

The annual Lake County Burn Ban for 2020 is still in effect. CalFire has lifted their burn permit suspension, which prevents any burning during peak fire season, however they have not declared an end to fire season. This lifting of CalFire’s burn permit suspension allows some exemption burns to occur before the end of Fire Season. The Lake County Burn Ban is still in affect for general open burning. The burn ban includes ALL open waste burning, unless an exemption burn per...mit has been issued. These exemptions may include burns for agricultural operations, essential control burns for fire safety projects, public safety burns, specific burns in the wildfire recovery areas, and others. To obtain an exemption, first contact the Lake County Air Quality Management District (LCAQMD) to determine need, then your local Fire Protection Agency so that your burn site can be inspected and evaluated for fire safety. Only after the Fire Agency has inspected the burn site and notified the LCAQMD that the proposed burn is fire safe, can you obtain a written exemption permit. Anyone responsible for open burning during the ban without an exemption permit may be subject to a citation, fines, and the cost of the Fire Agency response to extinguish the fire. Burn restrictions will remain in effect until CalFire declares an end to fire season. Lake County’s joint Fire and Air Quality Management District’s open burning program has incorporated both fire safety and air quality management since 1987, and has greatly contributed to our community’s superior fire safety and air quality.

Orange skies this morning as Kelseyville’s own Engine 5531 has been deployed going on 4 weeks. Engine 5531 is currently under an Assistance by Hire contract, where our crews provide coverage at Cal Fire stations throughout the LNU unit. Currently we are located in Healdsburg. Stay safe out there!

Kelseyville Fire Protection District 02.10.2020

We have been receiving numerous phone calls in regards to the LNU complex and evacuation information. For the most up to date info we would like to refer everybody to the Cal Fire information line at (707)967-4207. On duty crews at our stations are not always able to provide the most up to date information, as none of the fire lines are located in Kelseyville.
