In 2015, Keenan launched an online mandated reporter course for our customers to meet the legal requirements in AB 1432. Since then, more than 10 million total trainings have been completed focusing on all aspects of school risk and compliance. Forklift safety certification requires operators to complete both live classroom training and demonstrate safe equipment use. Quite a challenge with the current COVID-19 restrictions! Keenan’s Steve Tait took on the task and designed forklift training protocols to qualify 15 school employees safely. Steve’s customer was thrilled and training participants gave glowing reviews of the innovative approach.

While school districts have a partial exemption from certain workers' compensation recordkeeping, districts may be notified to provide certain reports. When one of his clients was given a notice for reporting, Keenan's John Martino was ready to step in to prepare the required logs for the client with no additional follow up. The customer was very appreciative and commented that John provides outstanding service without them having to ask!

As part of #WomensMonth, throughout March we will highlight various #WomenofKeenan. Today we'd like to introduce you to Vanessa Peña Account Executive. Vanessa joined Keenan 10 years ago as a Senior Account Manager and has worked her way up to an Account Executive, where she is responsible for new business development and client retention. She joined Keenan two years after the financial crisis of 2008, during a time of economic uncertainty, after being contacted by a recru...iter while she was working at a large traditional brokerage firm. After doing some research, she found herself being impressed with the Keenan culture and is glad she went on the interview. Q: Any advice you have for other women here at Keenan or women looking to get into the insurance industry? A: Insurance, risk management, claims handling, and JPA management is not an easy subject and requires time to really understand how it all works. Before coming to Keenan, I never knew what a JPA was. My advice is to put the work in and keep going. Before you know it, you’ll be the one that everyone goes to for help. Try not to get discouraged and learn as much as you can, but also remember to share your knowledge and experience with others.

A: My advice for women is this quote from Nelson Mandela: "Your playing small does not serve the world. Who are you not to be great?" I believe we are all gifted with unique talents and strengths.
