FIVE TENETS OF HEALTH 1. Nourishment: including healthy quantity and quality of nourishment from food, drink & our senses (that is, from smelling, tasting, seeing, feeling/touching, and hearing)... 2. Living in integrity: that is, aligning our actions with the voice of our innermost essence, to the best of our abilities 3. Stress management: including healthy quantity and quality of sleep and calmness of mind 4. Activity: including exercise and rest at the right time, in the right quantity 5. Minimizing harmful chemicals in our homes, offices and lives in general: for example, in our personal health care and cleaning products Dr. Claudia Welch https://drclaudiawelch.com/the-five-tenets-of-health/

The kind of fat you eat is more important than how much.

Good morning! When I have a longer break between patients at my clinic I turn my waiting room into my yoga studio/gym . It's so important that you have a daily practice that gets your body moving and your blood pumping. I often feel like a health coach with my patients because I want them to have health goals and practices that they do on their own and become empowered and stronger on their own accord . I think health facilitator is a better title than coach.... I don't like nagging or putting pressure on anyone. I was never into athletics or competitive sports or competitive anything . So I often come from a place of gentleness and caring when I advise about diet changes, exercise and stress reduction techniques. Let's take better care of eachother and raise our vibration to help the planet heal and evolve to higher compassionate consciousness. This is my wish for us . #yoga #acupuncture #chinesemedicine #TraditionalChineseMedicine #TCM #holistichealth #healthiswealth #healyourbody #healyourmind #bodymindconnection #AcupunctureandHerbs #loveyourself #raiseyourvibration #ilovewhatido

When a new patient comes in I have to have the 'talk'. About how health is not something that comes magically to you in a pill or a therapy. Of course, these things help give you a push in the right direction for the most part. I believe we are partners in health. We can cheer each other's health goals and help focus your energy and intention on taking better care of yourself. The sun shines outside us, that doesn't change. But we often forget the sun shines inside us, too. Get your light on and keep it lit. I will help you and cheer you on. I will always wish good thing for you.

It can be disturbing to many when your digestive system is causing havoc on a daily basis. A number of factors can cause an upset stomach after eating. It's a good practice to note what foods you eat in food journal and pay attention to how you feel after a meal. Lots of us are eating on the run and don't have proper time or space to eat peacefully and mindfully. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs are a natural and wonderfully effective treatment for many digestive issues such as acid reflux, irritable bowel, ulcerative colitis, gas and bloating, constipation and diarrhea.

While the long-term impact of this global health crisis may take years to understand, its immediate effect has already changed the world as we know it. In the US, the country with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the coronavirus has killed more Americans in one year (540,000) than the flu has in the last 10 years combined (368,000). The UN has warned that the COVID-19 pandemic will likely cause a long-...term increase in the number and severity of mental health problems. The evidence regarding the mental health consequences of lockdowns and social distancing is still being studied. While we have no large-scale data on the effect COVID-19 has had on mental health globally, several smaller studies (PDF) indicate higher rates of anxiety and depression. A report (PDF) released by Oxfam International, a UK-based charity, said the pandemic hurt people living in poverty more than the rich. The most severely affected are women, Black people, African-descendants, Indigenous peoples, and historically marginalised and oppressed communities around the world, the report said. While online schooling played allowed classes to continue virtually, the UN estimates that nearly 500 million children, especially in poorer countries or rural areas, have been excluded from remote learning due to a lack of technology or policies. It's important to know that this has affected every aspect of life and every person on the planet.

It's absolutely wonderful to have living indoor plants in your home and office. Especially during these times where you and your families are spending more hours indoors with pets and additional cooking, you need to care for your air and your lungs. At my office I have a large and small pachira aquatica (aka money tree), a red Anthurium (flamingo flower), a couple of orchids, a kalanchoe, and always fresh cut flowers. Happy Saturday

I am trained to use essential oils with my Acupuncture treatments. I make a couple of 'in-house' blends that patients really like. One is called Clear and Focus. This one utilizes citrus and mint with a touch of cedarwood. This oil is great for attention issues for students, over worry or thinking, calming before sleep, and centering. I hope all of you have the tools to help you to maintain calm, clear your mind and focus throughout the day .

So lucky to have Yuki Sensei work on my eczema with moxa therapy when we were in Osaka for Kiiko Sensei's Seminar, for Yuyao Society. I miss Japan for sure! And this particular okyudo treatment cleared my eczema 60-70 percent after 1 session. Amazing! I am trained to do this for my patients in my clinic. In Chinese Medicine the heart is known as the emperor of the body. It's important to nourish our hearts. An easy way to do this is to eat foods which are red, "foods such as hawthorn berries, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, tomatoes, watermelon, peppers and goji berries keep your heart happy with lycopene and anthocyanin, antioxidants and beneficial vitamins. Other helpful foods include garlic, cayenne, cilantro, basil, magnesium (found in leafy greens, nuts and soy) and... green tea. Also try ginseng, jujube dates, reishi mushrooms, dong quai, seaweed and schizandra berries. Orange vegetables like carrots have carotenoids and lutein, powerful phytonutrients. And oranges, the fruit, can help decrease your risk of heart disease." https://startingpointacupuncture.com/nourishing-the-heart/

I treat menopause and perimenopause related symptoms at my clinic. Diet and exercise are helpful in easing the transition into your 'second spring'. "Menopause patients are encouraged to follow a diet with a high content of raw foods, fruits and vegetables to stabilize blood sugar. Some foods may promote hot flashes or aggreate mood swings and should be avoided, such as dairy products, red meats, alcohol, sugar, spicy foods, and caffeine." And as always lifestyle changes to reduce tension and stress greatly ameliorate stubborn symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, irritability and mood changes, insomnia, and anxiety.

Gua sha is most often used to relieve muscle and joint pain. Conditions of the muscles and bones are known as musculoskeletal disorders. Some examples include back pain, tendon strain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. According to traditional Chinese medicine, qi or chi is energy that flows through the body. Many people believe that a person’s qi must be balanced and flowing freely to ensure their health and wellbeing. People also believe that qi can become blocked, causing pain o...r tension in the muscles and joints. Gua sha aims to move this blocked energy to relieve aches or stiffness. I've been using Gua Sha facials to address wrinkles and skin discoloration in my clinic. It's fantastic! #guasha #guashascraping #tcm #traditionalchinesemedicine #acupuncture #chinesemedicineworks #acupuncturefacelifts #guashaforpain #iloveguasha

Honored to have Alex Tiberi, my teacher, convince me to begin my training in Chinese Medicine over 22 years ago. Always the most fascinating storyteller and contained such depth of knowledge and simplicity from the basics of Chinese Medical Theory. I miss those transparency slides and the overhead projectors . I think I'm giving away how old I am, lol.
