- PRODUCT UPDATE: Rajeena Kimono - Hey, CEs! We wanted to give you a little more insight about the Rajeena Kimonos (and the recent shipment delays.) We are so sorry about the unavailable status right now! These beautiful handmade kimonos feature an exclusive design that is created using a wet dye process. One step in creating this fabric's intricate design is to hang it outside in an environment to dry. The heavy monsoon season recently experienced in that region has resulte...d in the delays we've experienced in receiving our shipment. These are some of the unique, unforeseen situations we all grow through when working with developing artisan groups around the world. We have been in constant communication with the group, who have been getting some sunnier days to dry out the kimonos. YAY! They are in the process of finalization. We realized we hadn't fully explained the "why" behind the delay, and we want you to be able to explain to your customers why the delay is happening. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. (Waiting is never fun, we're right there with you!) But we are also praying for the many artisan groups affected by the heavy rains all over the world. Please share this explanation with your customers if they're asking about this product and encourage them that their purchases truly do help the women in these photos I've attached...and we WILL be getting more of these beautiful kimonos in soon. Because of your love for these products and amazing support for our artisans, we can continue to empower women out of poverty in India and all around the globe! <3

One of the reasons that you joined Trades of Hope is because your hearts want to help others and I am so proud of all that we accomplish together. Hurricane Harvey and Irma have affected so many families, including our own CEs, so let's keep them all in our prayers. It has also affected the orders that would normally come from parties and online events so remember to "book one more" for our Artisans to stand in the gap. I also want to reiterate to you how important it is to b...e careful of how we focus on ALL Artisan groups. I know we sometimes see a post and want an instant fix for a problem (like Shelley's group in Haiti). We love them and it pulls at our heart strings and we can easily share their link to shop. But it can have detrimental effects on all of groups. I love the Haitian products and do my own personal shopping with them. That's awesome... But here is the thing, we get one shot to "share the well" so to speak and when we share it with only one group, others are thirsty, parched and can lose hope of ever getting their turn to drink from the welll. So remember that your shop is always open and you can share your links to shop and help everyone. Share the well my friends https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=5iv7SCceH28

I love our new Expedition Journal! This journal (which is larger than it appears! It's almost the size of a piece of paper at 6.75" x 9.75!) features handmade paper that you can doodle and use sharpies on. I love it. It calls for someone to write about their daring adventure, document their journey afar, or cultivate their imagination right where they are. www.mytradesofhope.com/KarenCavanaugh

This bag.... our beautiful Odyssey! This bag has traveled to Italy via two plane rides (stuffed under seats), ridden twice in a boat on the Mediterranean Sea, and peeked in several caves along the way. She is carrying 10 baby bags to keep her organized! This bag doesn't have a scratch on her nor a smudge of dirt. Our Odyssey is an amazingly well made, sturdy jewel of a bag! I her! #respectthebag #lovetheodyssey

India recently banned the use of "triple talaq." The practice allows Muslim men (and only the men) to divorce their wives by repeating "talaq" (Arabic for divorce) three times. India has the second largest Muslim population in the world and yet is one of the last to ban this practice. NPR reported a Justice in the case said it's "manifestly arbitrary" to allow a Muslim man to "whimsically and capriciously" divorce his wife (NPR). ... Earlier in the year NPR reported: "Zakia Soman, co-founder of the Indian Muslim Women's Movement, says her organization sees many women who want to stay in unhappy marriages to avoid becoming destitute. These women seek to keep 'the status of wife' because they are so vulnerable, she says. Soman calls talaq a 'sword hanging over a woman's head,' and says domestic violence and the male prerogative to declare instant divorce are intimately linked. "She says frequently the husband threatens: 'Do this, or I'll talaq you! Don't do that, otherwise I'll talaq you.' She says: 'I should know because I've had a very bad marriage myself and being beaten was my fate for 16 long years.' ... "In 2015, Soman's organization surveyed India's Muslim community ... [and] found that 1 in every 11 women has had their marriage ended by talaq. Of those divorced women, fewer than five percent ever gets any financial support." These are some of the items from the new book, that came out July 28th. There's some really pretty things. There are also some newer items, that will be coming out for the Christmas holiday magazine. All of these items help another country as well as our own get out of poverty, stop human trafficking, and increase safety for families and their communities.
