2 Upcoming Workshops! Hierarchy of Needs with Leslie Samson-Tabakin! In the Hierarchy of Needs model, humans are motivated to fulfill their basic needs like food and shelter before they can move on to more complex needs, like self esteem and personal growth. This forms a bottom-up hierarchical system in a pyramid shape. After a short introduction of these concepts and discussing examples via slides over Zoom, participants will create their own personal Hierarchy of Needs thr...ough writing, drawing, and painting on pyramid template. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Leslie Samson-Tabakin is a visual artist and educator working in the Bay Area and Seattle, WA. Born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, Leslie received her MFA in Art from San Francisco State University in 2018, and a BA in Art from Smith College in 2007. She has been an artist in residence at Facebook, Inc. and Kala Art Institute, for which she received the San Francisco State University Residency Fellowship. Leslie has taught classes at San Francisco State University, Kala Art Institute, California College of the Arts, Facebook’s Analog Research Lab, Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Kala's Art Auction is excited to share the achievements of honored artist, Carissa Potter, @peopleiveloved. Earlier this year we sat down with Carissa to discuss the different levels of their practice through drawing, printmaking and paintings. A special thanks to the artist for speaking with us. She’s worked collaboratively with many artists on interdisciplinary projects and has a platform for classes and workshops that also sells editions, called If You Were Here Now @ifyouwereherenow . Additionally she has a retail shop for her own work called People I’ve Loved. Carissa Potter is a founding member of Colpa Press @colpapress and since 2010 she has been an artist in residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley. Carissa has worked with the ICA in Boston, BAM/PFA, SFMOMA, De Young Museum, CCA, The Body Shop, Anthropologie, The Color Factory, Facebook, and Pinterest to name a few. Carissa finished her first book with Chronicle books in 2015 titled I like you, I love you. In 2016, Carissa was an artist in residence at Facebook. Currently she is working on being a better listener and just finished her second book with Chronicle books, titled It’s Ok to Feel Things Deeply. Scholarship I & II Enrollment This reduced class tuition is reserved for those who would not otherwise be able to take this class because of funds.
