November is World Vegan Month! There are several major benefits to moving to plant-based nutrition, all supported by excellent science. These benefits include: Disease prevention: Whole-food, plant-based eating can prevent, halt, or even reverse chronic diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes.... Easy weight management: People who eat a plant-based diet tend to be leaner than those who don’t, and the diet makes it easy to lose weight and keep it offwithout counting calories. A lighter environmental footprint: A plant-based diet places much less stress on the environment. Try adding one plant-based meal per day to your diet, or go meatless on Monday!

Sugar might feel good for a moment, but boundless energy and stabilized moods are the long-term goals. Sugar occurs naturally in some foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. Consuming whole foods that contain natural sugar is okay. Since your body digests these foods slowly, the sugar in them offers a steady supply of energy to your cells. A high intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains also has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. Make sure to read labels and avoid the added sugars that manufacturers add to products to increase flavor and shelf life.
