Did you know? Racially motivated hate crimes against the AAPI community spiked 149% in the past year. According to Stop AAPI Hate, Korean Americans are the second-largest population experiencing racism and violence. This recent increase in Asian hate crimes has brought the urgent issues that our local nonprofit partners have already been addressing to the forefront of our minds. Korean American Community Foundation of SF continues to work to build #sustainable, #comprehensive..., and #equitable solutions for our most vulnerable populations, including assault victims, domestic violence survivors, and low-income seniors facing food insecurity. This is why your support matters. If you are looking for a way to support these efforts, please consider becoming a sustaining KACF-SF with a recurring donation. As a thank-you for your monthly gift of $21 for 2021, we will send you a pair of bluetooth wireless headphones by Harman! In partnership with Asian Americans Advancing Justice - AAJC, Hollaback! continues to provide Bystander Intervention Training, which prepares individuals to respond effectively in the face of xenophobic harassment while maintaining one’s own safety. Hollaback! also offers a targeted workshop for people ex...periencing anti-Asian harassment. Thank you to all who joined us in honoring the victims of the Atlanta shooting and to heal as a community at the Bay Area K-Coalition Virtual Vigil last Saturday. Our guest artist Kiona Medina created a mixed-media artwork during the vigil, encapsulating audience responses to the question: What is your vision for community healing? We have also captured some of the response text from the vigil’s chat box. We hope you appreciate her artwork as much we did! On this harvest moon, we honor those who came before us and send a message of gratitude to all of our supporters and frontline partners: Thank you for being part of our community. Songpyeon, half-moon shaped rice cakes, are traditionally eatenduring the Chuseok holiday and celebrate the year's harvest. They can be stuffed with sweetened ground sesame seeds, chestnuts, or mung beans, and are steamed on a bed of pine needles for a sweet and aromatic taste. They are one of our favorite Korean treats!
