TODAY - It’s Giving Tuesday 2020! ~ Please give to the California Surf Museum’s Recovery Fund. The Museum has been hit hard by the pandemic, suffering a major loss in revenue because of shutdowns, cancelled programs and fundraisers, and limited gift shop hours. Nevertheless we are looking beyond Covid, and are super excited about our future with a new strategic plan and an array of awesome programs and exhibits in the works. We’re also planning to re-curate our vast collect...ion of priceless surfboards and other surf-related objects, to help us continue to tell the awesome story of surfing. Join us in sharing the stoke, and help us reach our goal of $10,000 this Giving Tuesday! ~ https://www.facebook.com/events/115561696912774/ See more

CHECK OUT THIS INTERVIEW WITH CARL HERRMAN. ~ Carl Herrman was born in 1939 in Freeport, New York, and attended Massapequa High School, where he lettered in football and wrestling. A pound-for-pound fit athlete, he was thus in great shape when he was introduced to surfing as a teen. He became a lifeguard at Tobay Beach and was able to surf most of the top spots on the Atlantic Coast. In 1966, he helped found Surfing East magazine, and was Editor one of the first surf publi...cations on the Right Coast. The early editions are peppered with his zany, whimsical art. ~ CHECK OUT THIS STORY AND MANY OTHER AT THE CALIFORNIA SURF MUSEUM. www.surfmuseum.org #oceanside #californiasurfmuseum #surfstories #carlherrman https://vimeo.com/143176538

A natural historian, he has collected and shared countless stories a...nd significant artifacts that have enriched CSM’s environment over the years. ~ CSM’s friends and followers wish Woody the happiest of birthdays! Super Girl Surf Pro 2020 was a blast! ~ Did you get any PHOTOS? Post them below. ~ Congratulations to Team California for taking the title at the 13th Annual Super Girl Pro contest in Oceanside last weekend. ... ~ The first North American women’s surfing event since March, COVID-19 precautions called for an unusual competition format Team California vs. Team United States - and only 16 U.S. women were able to compete. Fortunately the participants enjoyed excellent conditions as a steady swell provided consistent 3-to-6-feet breaking faces. They happily pushed each other right till the end. 14-year-old Oceanside dynamo Caity Simmers, who surfed for Team California, is a rising star on the women’s circuit. ~ PHOTO CREDIT TO Bill Schildge #californiasurfmuseum #supergirlpro #girlsrock See more

STORIES FROM THE CALIFORNIA SURF MUSEUM - ~ One wonderful aspect of some waves is the beloved Reform phenomena. The outer break appears to lose life and yet somehow the energy is re-bundled to have a second act before expiring on the shoreline. In a similar manner, the reform of the virus that momentarily waned now seems to be rebuilding in various areas and warrants our constant and continued vigilance. This directly affects the California Surf Museum as we are bound to state and region allowances to either open or remain closed to public attendance.
