Bet On Yourself .. This is a mental attitude where you drown out all the noise and opinions of what others think you should do and instead decide on what you want to do, stick with it, and bet on yourself to be successful. If you don’t believe in yourself why would you expect someone else to? .. When I was 23 and just out of college I entertained the idea of getting into real estate. I spoke with a friend of my parents who was a realtor at the time. She explained to me that... it’s not a glamorous job, that it’s very tough to get clients, and that she didn’t know how much longer she planned on being in the business. This was enough to talk me out of pursuing this career. 7 years later the idea of pursuing real estate crossed my mind again. I ran into another gentleman who seemed to be doing well as a Realtor so I took him out to lunch to pick his brain. What I came away from that meeting was his words If I had to do it again I would not have gotten into this business. Once again this was enough to discourage me for several more years. .. 6 years ago a friend of mine decided he was going to get his license and become a realtor. Get Comfortable being Uncomfortable All too often we get set in our routines and the trap of remaining comfortable. Although this may give us a sense of security and predictability, it can hold us back from experiencing new opportunities, adventures and achieving greatness in other aspects of our life. We may be content sitting around at home catching up on a favorite show, but what if you accepted that invite to that social function when you didn’t really want to go? Who... knows who you could have met and how that relationship could have been life changing. When you go to the gym and don’t have anyone there to motivate you, it’s easy to go through the motions and leave being content. When you push yourself to uncomfortable safe levels, that is when you begin seeing results. A specific example I can give is when I took the leap into the modeling industry after college. I have always been an introvert and very shy. Being the center of attention during a photoshoot, especially when it was in public scared the hell out of me. It still does. The thought of doing a runway show in front of hundreds of people was terrifying. But I knew I could also benefit from these experiences. Getting comfortable being uncomfortable has allowed me to be more open, less shy and more confident around other people and in business. Everyone has many examples in their life when they decided to take the comfortable route instead of taking a chance. I still do but am making a conscious effort to change that. Unplugged .. Living in the central valley we are very fortunate by having the best of both worlds. We are within two hours of going to the beach and going to the mountains. .. Three years ago several friends and I started an annual camping trip. Being able to take a weekend away from the daily work life and completely unplug from TV, phones and computers does wonders for the mind.... .. Hiking, swimming in the lake, jumping off the waterfall and telling scary stories around the campfire with the little ones were all highlights of the weekend.
