Happy National Pie Day! Celebrate this important occasion with a new, delicious recipe. You can thank us tomorrow when you're eating pie for breakfast. All-American Apple Pie Pastry for a two-crust pie... 3/4-1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons flour or 2 teaspoons tapioca 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon salt 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced 2 tablespoons butter Preheat oven to 425 F. Combine sugar, flour or tapioca, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sprinkle over sliced apples and mix lightly. Heap into 10-inch pie plate lined with bottom crust. Dot with butter. Roll out top crust and place over apples. Seal crusts together, trim and flute edges. Cut vents in top crust to allow steam to escape. Brush top of pie with water and sprinkle with sugar. Bake 50-60 minutes or until crust is browned and apples tender. Cool and serve.
