A lovely video about my favorite building and favorite architect of all time. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. https://www.nowness.com/series/in-residence/ray-kappe

We have been contacted and requested to work on a sizable project in Trinidad. My initial reaction, after being flattered, was one of skepticism. However, as additional information starts to come in its looking more legitimate. What colleagues have had experience working out of the country? What pitfalls should I be aware of as I take this into consideration? Needless to say, I’ll believe it when I see it, but in the meantime I wanted to pick some of your brains as to what questions I should be asking? What do you consider a red flag? And open to any other suggestion.

Well, almost twenty years later we’re going to try and sneak another project into Caughlin Ranch (Eaglesnest), Reno, NV. Despite the prevalent large stucco, hipped tiled roof homes, we’re trying to infuse a level of integrity generated from the site and surrounding region. The intent of the home is not to be a façade stamped from a particular historic architectural style, but rather an amalgamation of local indigenous influences. The materials and forms are generated mostly from the historic agrarian and utilitarian structures of northern Nevada. The combination and juxtaposition of the simple yet understated forms and earth tone materials hopefully ties the project to the landscape. Wish us luck.
