Santa stopped by the shop this afternoon to pick up this project we finished today - just in time to get it under the Christmas tree for one lucky guy! Happy Holidays, from the Jimmy Strauss Jeeps Team!
This 1945 GPW came to our shop nearly one year ago from Montana for a complete restoration! We’re so glad to have Mr. Jim Rummel back on the road just ahead of the Montana snowstorms and looking great in his new wheels!
We had a client who purchased a restored engine for his Jeep so he could drive his daughter to her wedding in their family heirloom - after several phone calls with Jimmy and some long distance troubleshooting, he got the engine installed! Here’s what he had to say: Jim! It started and is running! Clutch is great. Engine running cool (less than 175). Replaced coil helped us along. We had to find the right position for distributor. We had to move much further than we thought.... Carburetor needed some adjustment. Changed wires, points and tried middle mark and compression methods dozens of times. It starts and it runs! Your engine looks great under the hood. I can not begin to tell you how much we all appreciate your excellent work AND your tireless and helpful instructions. It runs! I am certain that there were many shorter routes to get where we ended up but honestly besides the disappointment of Erin (bride) and the whole family I was driven to not fail in face of all your hard work and excellence that you and your guys have done for us. I am so happy to tell you .... It lives! We are so glad to be a small part of this special day!
We did the math! Our team has OVER 200 years of combined experience - and we’re so lucky to say we’ve loved every minute of it! Thank you for trusting us with your sentimental and historical projects day after day, year after year, and generation after generation!
There’s lots of yellow going down the road this week! Our team just finished an engine and drivetrain rebuild for the Bay Cities Refuse company for their 1943 GPW yard jeep! It’s not our usual olive drab, but Marin County residents will see them coming!
We’ve been working on this 1941 Bantam prototype jeep project for some time now - this week we got to get the body squared up and mounted on the frame after countless untold hours of sheet metal work! The frame restoration was completed in our shop last year, and now this vehicle is well on its way to seeing some road miles!
As a retirement gift to himself, Mike Alfidi sent us his Jeep for a motorpool restoration! We’re looking forward to seeing Mike on the road after he returns from his final deployment and gets to enjoy his new retirement from the Navy later this year!
Wishing you all a very Happy Independence Day! This morning Jimmy got a desperate call from Mr. George Despotis - he had his Jeep all outfitted and ready to escort Lt Brennecke (B24 Navigator and DFC recipient) in his community parade today, when his Jeep suddenly wouldn’t start! Though he was in a whole different state, Jimmy was able to spend about an hour on the phone with Mr. Despotis and get him sorted out and back on the road, just in time for the parade! ... We hope you’re all having as much fun today as George did, back on the road and ready for action!
