Tindell's Horse & Mule School, Humans Too

Here is an update for those of you following along on my Wilbur-Cruce Spanish Barb Francesca. As of today, I’ve owned her 4 weeks. I went out to Jerry Tindells... Oak Hills ranch last week for a two day private lesson, and yesterday for a one day follow up. The video is from last week working in the round pen, we progressed from there. Jerry talked about why It’s so important to understand from the beginning what you’ll be asking. The beginning building blocks are the foundation for the rest of it. (And yes, the cat is yelling at me in the video, meow) I’ll be going back Monday for a half day to round up what we have already worked on. Francesca & I have some homework to do this weekend! Francesca is a 11 year old Spanish Barb mare off the range, bred and raised in New Mexico by preservation breeders Jerry and Heidi Collings . She hadn’t been handled since she was a yearling, starting any horse at any age, it’s vital to me to get the foundation solid right from the get go. Jerry really had to help Francesca, as an older colt Francy had a lot of brace, (‘leaning’ against the halter and bridle) but with Jerry’s expertise and timing he was able to work through it, I wouldn’t have been able to do effectively. Setting that foundation for the future. I worked with Francesca while in New Mexico at Heidi’s ranch. We worked up to me gettin on her and having a good first ride. Francesca is smart and willing with a good attitude and disposition. It’s important not to squelch that. I’m lucky to live within driving distance so that i have the opportunity to go out to Jerry’s place in Oak Hills CA as often as he is available!! I always learn so much from Jerry’s horsemanship. I really appreciate how articulate he is and his ability to explain (until I understand) the art of horsemanship. Yesterday I had a good second ride on her. Walked, Trot, halt, back and bend right, left and disengage haunches. Francy was a little sticky at first, not unusual for a first ride, but Jerry, my wingman, was right there to help keep Francy moving along in a positive way. Spanishbarb.com JerryTindell.com

We conduct on-...site training with clients and need a responsible, self-starter who has impeccable follow-through and is comfortable around stock.
