Saturday? Yes, I'll be up there, rain or shine... highly likely the last day of the season hopeful for rare falcon or maybe a beautiful buteo.... 1 more day. ... Hoping for a birthday gift from the raptor gods, first on the list would be RLHA, and second the elusive PRFA.... I'll leave the JVC at 9:30 sharp Covid protocols in full effect. It's been an incredible year thank you all for your support, dedication and time. Fun day Bird Friday up on the hill, with Team one off the hill for the season team three slid in for a neat day.. From Shelly Hello Fellow Raptor Enthusiasts, Team 3 Hawk watch report for 11/27. What a magnificent day up on the Jenner Hawk Watch Hill! Sunny, warmish, and a steady, mild wind. A spectacularly clear day with sights of the Farallon's off in the distance-with specs! Larry B. and I were joined by Dave M. and Sam H and Jill H. To my absolute delight we were greeted ...by a perched FEHA upon arrival. The bird soared and circled over us for a long time, giving me my very first view of a FEHA this season. (Shelly's Report) From LB. Neat day, with multiple FEHA's around at one point 4 at once, Peregrine was fast looping around western flank being mobbed by ravens, but PEFA was just playing with them, Ravens couldn't even attempt to follow the banks, dips and turns as the PEFA, swept down to the beach... Lots of good looks a FEHA's and one instance, where a FEHA dove on a TV that got too close, don't see that a lot. Lots of good looks at Sharp-shinned Hawks all day, not so much migrating but more so Over-wintering? Most Harriers were distant, but we did get a couple good close views... As noted below High Kes count, lots of movement and activity first 3 hours, but sightings most likely indicative of 18-22 birds, round out to 20 individuals, LB Jenner Hawkwatch. The count looked like this: 86 TUVUs 9 WTKI - which were the 2 over-wintering w/ 2 interlopers 7 NOHA- 1 Juv & 1 female, 5 undocs were far off on coast 9 SSHA, 5 adult, 4 undoc. 74 RTHA, w/ 14 Juv; and 2 dark morphs- 1 of which was a juv 8 FEHA- all adult (at least 5 different birds) 33 AMKE- 8M; 11F; 14 Undoc- these included at least 4 of the resident pairs likely counted 2xs (good estimate would be 20 individuals) 1 MERL, zipped by south west flank, small dark falcon 1 PEFA, cruised by west flank over pinnacle & goat rock beach 2 Unidentified Raptors We also noted some major badger action on hill (fresh digs near the tail head to the watch, big holes and many of them some with rodent nesting/insulating materials or food stocks leftovers...) Also 1 coyote, 1 bobcat as well Also Dave M. was helpful with the scope, ear and ID's getting a couple Pipits and a Wrentit.
