Marc Lowenstein's Coursera course, Approaching Music Theory: Melodic Forms and Simple Harmony, is a deep dive into the relationship between the technical and aesthetic details of music. Recently, Marc has launched a new initiative called Further Explorations by Request, where he takes an even deeper dive into specific pieces of music requested by learners in his Coursera course and posts them to YouTube. In his latest video, Marc explores two more pieces requested by his Coursera learners: Arvo Pärt's Fratres, and Frederick Delius' The Walk to the Paradise Garden. Get ready for some serious (and not so serious) discussion about counterpoint and much more. https://youtu.be/uE8OomMV9vE

On exhibit at REDCAT: "Inside Out & Upside Down: Posters from CalArts 1970-2019" This project "provides an in-depth look at an unseen history of CalArts and graphic design practice in Southern California. The exhibition, series of conversations, online platform, and new publication reveal CalArts’ role in the history of contemporary graphic design, while also reflecting on inclusion and representation in the design field. Inside Out & Upside Down: Posters from CalArts 1970-20...19, features over 300 student and faculty-designed posters from the remarkable -- and long unavailable to the public -- CalArts Poster Archive. This comprehensive retrospective surveys the history of graphic designers producing experimental work for the numerous artists, musicians, performers, dancers, and thinkers that have visited the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) since its founding in 1970."
