I work out a lot. Why do I work out? When I tune into the sensations in my body, asking what it likes and doesn’t like, and find a state of flow, I have a pleasant experience, I don’t overdo it, and lo and behold, I perform better and look better (a bonus, not an aim). When I focus on aesthetics, confusing the bonus for the aim, however, pretty much all of the above goes in the wrong direction. @enagoski ‘s Come As You Are has been a revelation to me, my clients, and to some of my closest relationships.

It’s a stressful time. Find your retreats. Ring the bell, stare at a mountain.

Therapy is social justice work. That’s all.

Oh no @hillaryliannamcbride has a podcast of her therapy sessions. What a great reminder of bringing your whole self to the work. No standing apart, no cold professionalized withholding from this practitioner. The whole compassion and nothing but. Binge weeping has begun!

A) an empty coolant tank, which happens when your heater core fails and dumps your coolant into your foot well. B) a poor, unassuming MCB from @bellesbagels, consumed once the car was finally to a mechanic who could and would fix it. Self-care is about finding the gestures and acts and people and things that tell you it’s okay. The act of giving yourself good things can be healing in and of itself, especially if you were raised in scarcity/withholding. It’s amazing to me w...hat spending $10, and calories (), on myself can mean coming from my friend Jeff. A note on what self-care isn’t: taking what you want at the expense of others or your health. To paraphrase @brenebrown, it can be a glass of wine; it can’t be five.

@hillaryliannamcbride is gonna be one of Oprah’s favorite things before long. Her wisdom as a practitioner is really something. Right around this spot, there is some gold. but also, throughout

Right when I ask clients about their substance use in life, I ask them about their phone use. One simple way to define mindfulness is doing the one thing in front of you. Our multitasking devices, which we put between our face and the person or task in front of us, then, are perfect mindfulness foils. And I'm posting this picture because every time I see a ‘96 volvo 850 (my only car until I was 32) i fall in love all over again. Bring your whole self to your work. Even the weirdness that has you posting volvo nostalgia pics where clip art of mountain streams is what’s called for.

Just mentioned this to a client and I'm gonna say it again. My favorite mantra in self-compassion work is the one I stole from Brené Brown: You're doing the best you can. It so well antidotes the voice of shame within so many of us ("you're not enough") without being BS ("Jeff, you're a tremendous success!")

Welcome. I treat clients across walks of life, but have discovered a focus in treating artists and creatives, as well as those undergoing life transition, such as break-ups and religious system/ family system deconstruction and reconstruction. Optimizing performance and satisfactionin creative life, business and athletics, yesbut also across relationships and life experience, are passions of mine. Moving through past and ongoing abuse and trauma are often part and parcel of... this work. I am an EMDR therapist in training & consultation. This is a trauma and adverse life event centered therapy, for those who feel stuck in their current lives and are searching for the tools to move forward. I practice from a mindfulness frame, within a holistic mind/body/spirit understanding. I work in collaboration with clients to develop the habits of self-compassiona bedrock for resilience from shameand keystone to personal and professional growth. If self-criticism is a dogged presence in your life, this orientation can help. These habits are the product of specific, portable, and repeatable exercises devised together in session. I am a practicing writer, actor, and artist, and that creativity informs my work with all clients. I have been a minister in the past; this orientation toward human healing, forgiveness and progress remains crucial to the work I do as a therapist. I am honored to walk alongside others on their journey toward wholeness. Please feel free to reach out and we can talk so each of us can discern a fit. Even if I am not the right therapist for you, I want to help you find the right next step in your journey.
