Lee’s Pharmacy is located at 1201 24th Street Suite B120. Diana Lee and her staff are simply amazing. They’re fast, friendly and honestly care about their customers. They even offer deliveries. Did someone say Foxy Friday?? It’s the one and only Lindsey M and I’m taking the van for my #featuredfriday #fieldtrip. Today’s attention is going to Native Fox Collective located at 1800 H Street. Owned by twin sister team Amy and Kelli Davis, Native Fox is a boutique full of fun, funky and foxy. It’s one of the few places where you can purchase high end pieces, jewelry, hats and even a Grateful Dead t-shirt. The possibilities are really endless. Amy and Kelli have care...fully curated their business over time. Most customers remember their last store Fashionista at the Fox Theatre but who remembers their original store Shabby Chic??!!! It was at Shabby Chic where I first met the Davis sisters and where my obsession for their style started. My Mom and I would spend many weekends searching through those racks. Recently I had to retire a worn-out vintage travel bag I bought years ago. When the ladies closed Shabby Chic I was left wondering where I would get my local fashion inspiration. That fear faded when they opened Fashionista and then Native Fox. Their new location opened last year and the store is amazing inside and out!!! It’s hard to believe it’s the same building that was once occupied by a convenience store. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss walking to the store for a soda and candy bar but I’ll live. I’d much rather be able to see the girls and pick up a new outfit, jewelry or both. Good morning and happy Friday. Lindsey M is here for a #featuredfriday #fieldtrip . Today I decided to mix things up a bit and talk about the beautiful murals downtown. When I moved downtown about 10 years ago there were only a few murals. Today we are lucky to have them spread throughout and new ones are popping up frequently. A few have been painted by artists from out of town like this one in the photo above. @bumblebeelovesyou is a Los Angeles area artist and painte...d this mural in 2017. It’s bright, cheerful and reminds me to sit back relax. Recently local artists have been creating amazing works of art. One of my favorites is the alley between 17th, 18th, G st and H st. The mural project is always changing and many local artists have contributed like @bethchaneyartworks and @jenwillco I hear a new mural is being painted soon and I can’t wait to see what’s next. Follow @muralalleybakersfield for more details. We have amazing talent in this town and we need to celebrate their work. So today please take a trip downtown and soak up all this amazing art. It’s time again for Lindsey M’s #featuredfriday #fieldtrip. Today I’m shinning the spotlight on the amazing Mexicali. Downtown Bakersfield is blessed with many great Mexican restaurants but today I had to start with my all time favorite @mexicalibakersfield I mean just look at our van next to that cactus sign!!! Isn’t that the cutest combo you’ve ever seen??!!! Speaking of combos. Every time I go to Mexicali I have to get the one item combo with the chile relleno and ...a yummy strawberry margarita. Pro tip: make sure you come hungry because you will want to eat a lot of chips and salsa before you even see the menu. Now that we’re slowly moving back to indoor dining I can’t wait to sit inside this beautiful building and feel the warm basket of chips. It may sound a little silly but these moments are the ones I miss the most. Dining out is an experience that we all need to treat ourselves to occasionally. Working at a restaurant can be challenging but knowing you’re providing a service that often brings joy is very rewarding. Every meal I’ve had at Mexicali has been delicious and the service has always been outstanding. It’s a true Bakersfield classic and has earned all the recognition. I’ll forgive you if you’ve never eaten there but only if you promise to try it out. We need our local businesses to not only survive but to thrive. Ok that’s a little cheesy but you get the picture.
