Islander Sportfishing 21.12.2020

The Islander returned from our 1.5 day trip this morning. Here's the scoop straight from Captain Peter: "We caught limits of bluefin, 12-100lbers. We had a stop after dark last night for 14 90-100lbers on flatfall jigs. Beautiful weather and a ton of bluefin around." Our trip tonight is sold out but we've added trips that have room next week. Don't miss out!! https://fishermanslanding.fishingreservations.net/resos/ @fishermans_landing @petesbent

We've added loads of 1.5 day fishing trips to our schedule! Fishing is fantastic right now, especially bluefin tuna from 30 lbs. up to 300 lbs. Don't miss out on these beauties... Guadalupe Island is still closed so we've had to cancel some shark cage dives. Their loss is your gain! Book here on the Fisherman's Landing site: https://fishermanslanding.fishingreservations.net/resos/

Another trip with limits of bluefin! The Islander returned from a 1.5 day Thursday morning with these lunkers and some very happy passengers. We've added more trips to our schedule as the fish keep biting...we've got space - jump on a trip with us before it's too late!! #islander #bluefin #yellowfin #dorado #yellowtail #fishermanslanding

We have a 1.5 day trip departing at 8 PM tonight (Tuesday, 10/06/20). Only 14 people booked right now so it will likely be an ultra-mega limited load - yes, we just made up a new term Time to pick up some high grade tuna (like this beauty from last week) before they disappear. The best boat in its class: friendly, helpful & polite crew, delicious gourmet meals, all-stateroom sleeping quarters, clean & modern heads, and we consistently put you on fish. #bluefin #yellowfin #dorado #yellowtail #islander

Our 1.5 day trip returned yesterday with limits of Bluefin tuna like this beauty caught by our ol' buddy George Williams. Great weather, delicious meals and plenty of fish...what more could you ask for? Get on our 2.5 day departing tomorrow night!!

We ended our 2.5 day trip on a 5 hour drift with 3-6 fish going the entire time. They were biting until we used up our last piece of bait! We ended up with 85 bluefin in the 35-50 lb. range, like this one caught by Alvin Flores. He comes with us 3 or more times a year and is one of the best anglers we have aboard!

Catching up on some of our fish counts from our two 1.5 day trips earlier this week. First trip had limits of Dorado and 62 yelllowfin tuna. Second trip we went for quality over quantity, passing on the smaller stuff south of the border and instead fishing near Clemente. It paid off with a mixed bag: 5 yellowfin in the 40-60 lb. range, 9 bluefin 30-40 lbs., 13 dorado and 52 yellowtail. The boat returns tomorrow from 2.5 day trip, scheduled leave again in the PM. We have added some new trips to the schedule...check them out on the Fisherman's Landing resos page!

Taking a moment to commend our captain and crew! Coming home Monday night from a 1.5 day trip, the Islander came across a small vessel in the middle of the ocean. 18 people (men, women and 3 children) had been abandoned by their coyote* 5 days earlier in this tiny, broke-down skiff with no food, water, life vests, beds, bathrooms or even paddles. It was standing room only, in a boat the size of a pick up truck, in either the blazing heat or pitch black seas, for these poor so...uls desperate for a better life. 5 DAYS!! Props go to our new night captain, Miss Sydney Shaw, who heard them yelling & flashing a light as the Islander sailed past. The panga was not on the radar, perhaps equipped with a scrambler. Captain John turned back and called the U.S. Coast Guard, who immediately responded but turned it over to the Mexican Navy (happened in MX waters). The crew fed them and waited 3 hours for their Navy to arrive, who then towed them back to land (the orange bottomed boat you see is the MX Navy...skiff is the other). For all that's going on in this crazy year, please remember to be thankful of where we live. America is still the land of opportunity and freedom, so much so that many people will risk their lives for a chance to live here. Side note - there were initially two skiffs. When theirs broke down, the coyote left with the other boat and said he'd be back for them in 10-12 hours. He never came back. *coyote: migrant smuggler. See more

Our 3.5 day charter with @hartlinenick @icicolorado saw the most epic fishing of the season. Not only did they catch 17 bluefin in the 130-210 lb. range, they also had limits of bluefin, most of which were caught on what captain John says was the 'craziest night fishing' he's ever seen. 8:30 pm to midnight they were on a massive school that kept on biting! We rounded out the trip with 7 yellowfin, 10 dorado, and 4 yellowtail.

Our annual 'Froggy Goes Fishing' 3.5 day invitational charter saw thick schools of bluefin everywhere (swipe to see the sonar). Here's Rick with a nice yellowfin though. We need someone to take more pics!!

Our Wolverine Fence 2.5 day charter returned yesterday with limits of bluefin and 52 yellowtail in the 15-35 lb. range. What a great trip: 12 anglers, beautiful weather and food to make your mouth water. Thanks for your business, Mr. Lopez!

The Islander returned from two 2.5 day trips this week with Captain Peter Macie behind the wheel. He landed limits of bluefin on both trips (including 7 @150 lbs) along with some fine yellowtail. Peter has been with us for years but is now a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University with a degree in International Business. Congratulations, Peter, and proud to have you at the helm!
