October is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. One and Four pregnancy’s end before 10weeks. I’m a mama of four angel babies.I will always be connected to those sweet souls. They will forever be apart of me. Miscarriage is a traumatic heartbreaking experience. My losses put me in the most darkest seasons of my life that forever changed me. I actually stoped doing birthwork for a while because I was in such despair. When I found out I was pregnant with ...my rainbow baby I was both overjoyed and terrified. I was scared and anxious that I might suffer another loss I felt like couldn’t withstand another one. I had to really work at finding bliss during my pregnancy. Lots of healing through meditation, positive affirmations, prayer,Reiki and lots of support. I share this with you because it’s something that we need to openly talk about. The feelings of griff, depression, heartbreak, fear, disappointment, brokenness, anger and self guilt. I now look at my own experience of loss as a gift. It has allowed me to have deep compassion and open my heart to sit with others with grate sympathy who have experienced pregnancy loss and infant loss. To guid them through all the feelings and healing that comes with such a dark season to help them find hope and light after the storm. To all of those who have held babies in there wombs and unable to hold them in your arms. To those who have had their babies born into haven. I see you and send love and much healing your way. I honor and respect all of you and your angel babies. #internationalpregnancyandinfantlossday #miscarriageawarenessmonth #miscarriagesucks #rainbowbaby #iamoneinfour Artist unknown

One of the four births I did this week. Babies had us midwifes on the go. Maybe due to the New Solar Cycle and Mercury Retrograde. This family has been with me for most of their pregnancy journey. Big sister has been soo excited the entire time and was happy to be present for the birth of brother. Mama was strong and listened to her body’s needs during labor. Daddy gave wonderful support. Oh and the doula, I love when there’s a doula! It’s soo important to make a mama feel safe and supported in her birthing space. Practicing informed consent and treating her like the powerful goddess she is. #homebirth #communitybirth #birthissacred #birthgaurdian #midwifelife #waterbirth #familycenteredbirth

It takes a village to support a birthing person. Love these women! #Repost @babybabushkamidwifery with @make_repost My birth team. These ladies went above and beyond to help one of my clients get through a long, tiring , challenging birth. They supported her so well. They supported ME so well! Through the problem solving, birth duties, encouraging rest for me and each other, supporting my client when I needed to step out for some air, through the brain storming, hands... on care, physical and emotional support. They all stepped up in such a wonderful way. I’m so grateful for these amazing birth workers. This is what three midwives and a doula looks like. Exhausted but taking the time out to capture our team with all of its greatness. Thank you @anandamama @intuitiverhythms_midwifery and @sacredflowerbirth . You are invaluable to me and I’ll love you always! #midwife #midwife life #Homebirth See more

Delayed cord cutting gives baby a chance to regain all their oxygen rich blood and it’s a valuable resuscitation tool. #homebirth #delayedcordclamping #theforgottenchakra #birthisscare

Midwifes are certified in NRP and practice regularly so we are ready in the rare occasion that we need to help a baby in distress when needed. We try to keep moms and babies together while doing so. Did you know that keeping the cord intact and milking towards the baby is a valuable resuscitation tool?

I was riding the waves of labor on this day seven years ago. Orion is a Rainbow baby and I was a HBAC( homebirth after cesarean) mama! After 23 hours of labor I finally got to bring Orion up to my chest and meet him face to face. After the loss of my dad and a miscarriage the summer before; It was a healing birth for me. I felt so Victorious as I reached down pulled my baby up. I had waited so long for such a moment. I couldn’t of done it with my amazing birth team! So bummed to find that the link to my Birth Story I wrote had expired but was grateful to find the slide show that my friend and birth photographer Victoria made for me.

Repost from @orgasmicbirth using @RepostRegramApp - Important information for your breastfeeding @withregram @2lifedoula @psplechta_birthphotography... SO WHAT IS THE BREAST CRAWL? AND is it widely performed only among home births? (SWIPE TO VIEW chronological photo-story of a breastcrawl) Breast crawl is the instinct of mammal newborns to move towards the nipple and attach to it for breastfeeding all by themselves. In humans, if the newborn baby is put on the mother's abdomen, the movements start 12 to 44 minutes after birth, followed by spontaneous suckling at 27 to 71 minutes after birth. (source: Selected Topics in Obstetrics and Gynaecology-4: For Postgraudate and Practitioners p. 281) According to a study published in August of 2012 in the Journal of Perinatology to determine the impact of the breast crawl on breastfeeding in a busy labor room, researchers randomly selected candidates to participate and compared to a group where breast crawl was not performed. They discovered in their results that breast crawl had a SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE IMPACT on the onset of lactation as well as extent of neonatal weight loss on day 3. Feel free to DM for link to study! But what about the role of breast crawl in maternal health and wellbeing? I found another interesting study conducted on 200 research cases in a hospital's labor and delivery where they found initiation of breast-feeding within hour of birth is very crucial. Every newborn, when placed on the mother’s abdomen, soon after birth, has the capability to find the mother’s breast all on their own & to decide when to take the first breast feed this is known as breast crawl. Results: Out of 200 full term babies, 166 babies able to successfully crawl within in 50 min. Out of 166 breast crawl mothers95.% mothers had early expulsion of placenta. 96% mothers had decrease in uterine size. 93% mother had no anemia in post partum period of same pregnancy. Happy to share the link to this study via DM as well. In any case, whether this is an obsolete medical practice or simply has a placebo effect, I think it is safe to say the results seem to present as positive on both mental and physical health #breastcrawl #liquidgoldmama

Riding a birth high tonight. Beautiful birth with a sweet family early this morning. I was completely hands of as my mama found her power and roared her sweet baby into her arms in the tub on her own. It was amazing! After the birth of the placenta we moved her to the birth pool (didn’t fill on time for the birth) where the older siblings got in the pool to bond with their new baby brother. It couldn’t of gone my beautifully. Always happy to have my partner in crime with me @babybabushkamidwifery. Your the best! #homebirth #sacredbirth #waterbirth #birthwithoutfear
