THE EMANCIPATION OF CHILD SUPPORT DEPENDENT WOMEN Every day in America, family law courts are approving marital settlement agreements. These court orders are designed to protect the financial well-being of single, head-of-household mothers, who are critically dependent upon the receipt of their support payments to cover food, clothing, housing, medical/dental and day care costs. The same laws protect custodial fathers too, but let’s face it, about 80% of children of divorce ...live with their mothers most of the time. Theoretically, child and spousal support awards are supposed to provide divorced mothers who, more often than not, earn less than the father, with the financial independence and freedom to live on their own and raise the children of their prior marriage. Unfortunately, there are millions of examples where the support system in America simply does not work. The statistics are staggering. Only 45% of mothers receive full support payments and 25% receive no payments at all. The other 30% receive something less than what they were due. In other words, 55% of the support system is not working. The number one reason for failure to pay support is caused by unemployment of the father. If he doesn’t have it, he can’t pay it. Of the $140 billion in past due support payments in the U.S., the average amount past due is less than $10,000. 2017 marked the first time in American family law history that a women can now emancipate herself from sole dependency upon his ability to keep a job and pay support. Child and Spousal Support Involuntary Unemployment Insurance was launched at www.insuredsupport.com covering up to 24 weeks of support payments per year due to qualifying unemployment of the ex-spouse. It is easy to obtain and is very inexpensive. So why is every divorced mother in America not insisting on the coverage? It’s brand new and they do not know the opportunity to insure their support payments even exists. Either party can purchase the insurance on a do-it-yourself basis online or through their attorney. Articles like this, divorce-specific blogs, broadcast and social media and family law professionals are all helping spread the word to women, so they may emancipate themselves from support dependency. I believe child and spousal support unemployment insurance will benefit millions of women in the years to come See more
