Dr. Jim Murray shared his love and knowledge of neuroscience with people of all ages at the Bay Area Science Festival. He also recruited high school students to participate in the free Bay Area Brain Bee, which will be held at California State University, East Bay on January 26th. The winner of the regional Bee is sponsored by the Institute for STEM Education to attend the national competition.
A big thank you to Baxter Hayward for opening your doors to CSU East Bay students! For many of our undergraduates and graduate students, it was their first experience being in a working facility that connected what they are learning in the classroom to industry. Your generosity and support made a huge impact on everyone who participated. "The site tour to Baxter opened my eyes to a whole new side of the applied sciences that I didn't know existed. Specifically, in regards to the manufacturing side, it never occurred to me that those jobs were a possibility for me after earning a Biology degree. This side of the industry involved processes that we don't learn about in the classroom. It was comforting to know that with my skills and degree, I could potentially work for a company like Baxter." - Karen, Biology Major
