Sophia L. from Barstow was being evicted for non-payment of rent. Our Attorney, James, attempted to negotiate a dismissal, but Sophia wanted her day in court. The case went to trial and during the cross-examination, the landlord admitted that the amount on the notice was excessive. James immediately requested that the case be dismissed due to overstatement of rent. The court agreed and dismissed the case. Sophia can remain in her home without fear and get back on her feet. ... Today we celebrate Human Rights Day, when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted 72 years ago by the United Nations General Assembly. The document proclaims the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
