In modern culture, different qualities tend to breed pride, envy, and favoritism. Society tends to favor those who are physically attractive, eloquent, or wealthy. This leads to conflict, jealousy, and division. It is all too easy to bring this kind of attitude into the realm of ministry. But the church should reflect God’s nature, not society’s norms. There is no room for pride or envy in the household of God. Our God-given differences should not be an occasion for division or strife. Rather, they should promote unity, interdependence, and service.
