#FunFactFriday ~ Our Solar System started off as a swirling cloud of dust and gas which eventually collapsed into a spinning disc with the Sun at its center. Because of this common origin, all the planets move around the Sun in the same direction and on roughly the same plane. They also all spin in the same direction (counterclockwise if observed from ‘above’) except Uranus and Venus. ... Uranus spins on its side, while Venus defiantly spins in the complete opposite direction. To start the celebration, we honor College Track alumna, Fatima (@fatimafmg). Fatima received her bachelor’s degree from @ucdavis and is currently pursuing her masters in School Counseling at @sacstate. As an immigrant from Mexico and the first in her family to graduate from both high sch...ool and college, Fatima has demonstrated the resilience necessary to overcome barriers to get to where she is today. Fatima shares: People don’t always talk about the challenges of being a first-generation student. The pressure, the fact that we have to be independent and figure so many things out on our own. At least that was my experience coupled with navigating my identity as a queer, undocumented, woman of color growing up in a religious Mexican household. Like so many of us, I learned how to be resilient, and I am grateful for the support of College Track that made my journey to college feel like one I wasn’t taking alone. Fatima, we wish you the best as you embark on your new journey in graduate school and get closer to your goal of supporting students of color in navigating the education system.
