On Friday, the IAHF celebrated St. Joseph's Day, unlike any other. It was a drive-by St. Joseph's Day! Kathy and Larry Lohman prepared 220 bags of food to be blessed and distributed. Approximately 200 bags were handed out during the drive-by, as well as some bags being donated to our neighbors at the Salvation Army. In addition to the food bags being handed out, money was donated for us to pass on to the Salvation Army and Our Daily Bread. A huge THANK YOU to the following vo...lunteers for this event: Kathy and Larry Lohman Ken Borelli Cathy DeMaria Dave Perzinski Lucia Clementi Ozzie Habib Stanley Olivar Joe Lucito Nanci Wilborn Rebecca Morici Sharon Vignato It's volunteers like the above mentioned people that help our organization have successful events. If you'd like to volunteer for any future events, please feel free to contact me, Dana Zuccarello. Either here or through the IAHF. credits: Azie and Stanley

Day 8: Frank Capra, legendary film director for #ItalianAmericanHeritageMonth Capra (1897-1991) was an Italian American film director, producer, and writer who ...not only became a legend in the film industry, but is also known for the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, which is a favorite around Christmastime. Born Francesco Rosario Capra in Bisacquino, a village near Palermo, Sicily, Capra was the son of a fruit farmer. Capra and his family immigrated to the United States when he was just 5 years old, settling in L.A. He graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a degree in chemical engineering and served briefly in the U.S. Army. In 1920 he became a naturalized U.S. citizen, and took the name Frank Russell Capra, while working a number of odd jobs. Capra began working in film in the 1920’s, writing scripts and directing little-known films. In the 1930’s, Capra’s films really began to take off; It Happened One Night (1934) became the first film to win all 5 top Oscars. His film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) was particularly popular and nominated for 11 Academy Awards. Capra quit his successful Hollywood career to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII, but returned from war to direct It’s a Wonderful Life one of his most beloved films. Capra also served as the President of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, was head of the Directors Guild of America, and worked with the Screenwriters Guild. His legacy of directorial creativity and playing on the ideas of an idealized, almost mythical, America continue to resonate today in modern-day Hollywood. Capra’s story of building himself up from a struggling Italian immigrant family to that of one of the world’s most well-known directors is a true American dream (and if you haven’t seen It’s a Wonderful Life, be sure to add it to your Christmas movie list this week!).
