THE FOOL MOMENT one year & five months ago today I made the scariest phone call of my life-I picked up the phone and called my boss and quit my career of 15 years. On a whim. It wasn’t planned or graceful, or fun. But i had enough faith in Spirit to take that leap-I knew I would be caught, and held. And i was. I had spent an entire month in the back rooms of my zumiez stores as a district manager crying-crying because something I once loved so dearly was becoming the ba...ne of my existence-the literal source of my anxiety. I was becoming more aware and conscious, and i was beginning to see the insane affects of white male agendas within capitalism, and the extreme toxic masculinity in my industry(skateboarding and streetwear) nothing was good enough, nothing was ever going to be good enough. Egos were all over the place, and i was outgrowing that part of my life. I’d been there since I was 16. I was literally raised to constantly find opportunities in things, and I was raised to never feel good enough cause you could always be better. Literally the entire system is patriarchal and based on LACK MENTALITY. It just wasn’t good for my soul anymore. And leaving was the best thing i could have done for myself and everyone who stayed behind and still believed in that way of life. Being disconnected for almost 365 days now (my last day was September 29 2018.) I’ve gone back and realized how harmful my white male boss was to me - how fatphobic and misogynistic he was to me and my teams, and how miserable of a person he must be to make others feel like this daily, for over 15 years. I wish him healing. I am so glad I followed SPIRIT and was lead divinely. I had NO IDEA I would be doing Witch Walk DTSA or having a shared space to do collective decolonizing work. I had no idea what Spirt had in store for me - but I did know that I had to follow my heart. And i did know I would be held and supported. And It’s been so much more than that - I’ve been carried, and flown, and shown that you don’t need anyone else to sign your paychecks. You are good enough to take that leap. May seem counter intuitive - but you don’t need a PLAN - you just need an inner KNOWING that you will be okay. See more
