State health guidance prevents schools from returning to in-person learning while their local county is in the purple/widespread tier of the COVID-19 risk monit...oring system. Sacramento County remains firmly in the purple tier and is unlikely to exit prior to San Juan Unfied’s planned return to classrooms. Therefore, the early January return to in-person learning will be postponed until health conditions improve significantly. District staff continue to monitor health data trends and will post updates to the district website at www.sanjuan.edu/covid19 each Thursday afternoon. This is disappointing to everyone and not where we wanted to find ourselves entering the holiday season and new year. We remain committed to returning to campuses when it is safe to do so this spring and have continued to move forward with preparations so that schools are ready when the time comes. Families and staff will receive at least two weeks of notice before a return to in-person learning is offered. Families, staff members and community can each play a role in helping our students get back to their classrooms by wearing face coverings when it is necessary to go out in public, avoiding gatherings, staying home if feeling ill, frequently washing hands and covering coughs and sneezes.
