Vintage African Pictoral Mud Cloth Tapestry Senufo Tribe Ivory Coast Although these textiles are not rare, finding one that’s graphically beautiful is challenging. This one makes the third one in 8 years. Which just goes to show you how difficult it is to find a good one!

Pashtun Dresses These are among the remnants of a wonderful tradition that is close to modern extinction. a versatile object- these dresses can serve as a decorative wall hanging or worn as festive look. The artistry is mesmerizing! A feature of Pashtun dresses, both urban and nomadic, are the beaded panels at the shoulders and along the seam line between the front bodice and the skirt of the dress. These are usually made of multi-coloured glass beads. It is also common to have roundels (gul-i pirahan or gul-i peron in Dari) on the shoulders, chest panel and waist. They are made of felt and embroidered with symbols that are related to good luck, prosperity and fertility. They are applied in pairs, and sometimes also used to decorate other objects, such as bags and horse harnesses.

Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver Leas Motif and Aqua Glass Cuff Bracelet An exquisite example of classic 1940s Mexican design. Although stamped, it does not appear to have been signed. Silversmithing in Mexico expanded with abundance in the early 1940s into the late 1950s, with various artists producing interesting and unique pieces. I’ve rarely seen cuff bracelets like this one, with three dimensional leafs and the Aqua (I’m not sure if the stone is aquamarine or Aqua glass) stone making it quite the eye catching piece! It fits comfortably on my wrist (slightly large bones) and although it has a very feminine quality, it’s substantial, although at the moment I don’t know the weight.

I know I’ve been absent from Facebook although not Instagram. I’ve been in Peru! This was just a few days ago in a small town in Chinchero in The Sacred Valley, on our way back from Machu Pichu.

Please join us at the opening from 2-5pm at 410 S Spring Street, CA 90013, between 4th and 5th Street. Quotidian is one of the foremost galleries in Downtown Los Angeles and will be exhibiting "Telling, Making, Doing; Women's Work". Expressing their stories, memories, and language, women are using aesthetic compositions to tell stories in two and three dimensions.
