A FREE, virtual training conference is being offered NEXT WEEKEND (April 10 &11) for those interested in learning more about emergency communications! The Comm Academy 2021 is a virtual training conference for anyone interested in learning more about emergency communications technologies and practices. This year’s theme is Disasters Here, There and Everywhere Are We Ready...? and will feature expert speakers on a wide variety of topics, from radio and messaging technologies to communications techniques to tales from the trenches. HAPPENING TODAY! | The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services will be conducting a test of the Humboldt Alert System at approximately 10 AM TODAY (March 24). Following this test, the US National Weather Service Eureka California will be conducting a Tsunami Communications Test. This test is scheduled to occur between 11 AM - Noon TODAY. As part of these tests you may: - Receive one or more notifications to your phone (including texts, phone calls and/or app al...erts) - Hear tsunami sirens sounding - See and hear messaging from the Civil Air Patrol - See and hear emergency messaging on TV or radio THIS IS ONLY A TEST. **PLEASE SHARE**

The US National Weather Service Eureka California has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Northern Humboldt County tomorrow morning, JANUARY 12. High astronomical tides will cause minor flooding in low lying areas along the coast. Up to one half foot of saltwater inundation above ground level is possible in low lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. A High Surf Advisory will be in effect from 7 a.m. tomorrow to 8 a.m. Wednesday, JANUARY 13, with large breaking waves 22 to 25 feet expect. PLEASE STAY OFF THE JETTIES AND FURTHER BACK FROM THE OCEAN!

Last night HCSO Southern Humboldt deputies came across an unusual sight while returning from a call: a 100+ foot tall tree on fire on Wilder Ridge Road. CAL FIR...E was requested and responded to the scene to ensure the fire did not spread. It is unknown what caused the fire at this time, however per CAL FIRE , at least three similar incidents occurred roughly this time last year. See more

High Surf Advisory is in place for 4 AM Friday through 10 PM Friday. A new large long-period swell around 18 feet is expected to build on Friday. Expect breaker... waves around 20 to 23 foot for west to northwest facing beaches to bring hazardous conditions for the beachgoers and mariners Friday morning through evening. Beachgoers should exercise caution. Avoid dangerous locations such as exposed rocks and jetties and steep beaches. Stay farther back from the surf zone. Larger sets can appear suddenly and can be dangerous if you are not paying attention. Never turn your back on the ocean! See more
