We’d like to share something new happening at the HCSO. State law requires that all California law enforcement agencies, including the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), report perceived demographic information related to all detentions and searches. The law, the Racial and Identify Profiling Act (RIPA), requires the HSCO begin collecting data on January 1, 2022, but deputies have already begun collecting the valuable information in preparation for reporting. The law ...will require HCSO deputies to document the perceived race, gender, age, and disabilities of people detained or searched. The goal of the law, and the ongoing goal of the HCSO, is to build knowledge and provide high-quality, evidence-based, service to the public. Reports from each agency will be released annually by the state’s RIPA Board which is headed by the Office of the Attorney General and includes a diverse group of members representing the public, law enforcement and educators. Welcome to the team Officer Kane! This weekend Hoopa Tribal Police Officer Kane was sworn into the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. Hoopa Tribal Police Officers train with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office in order become cross-deputized to enforce state laws. Cross-deputization agreements with our local tribes allows the tribes to provide more coverage to their communities and gives the Sheriff’s Office an additional resource for mutual aid. #humboldt #sheriff #community #heretohelp

2020 was a weird one. We’re so glad to get on with 2021. As we pause and reflect on 2020, while it was a year of hardship and heartbreak for many, we were lucky enough to witness a handful of incredible moments of unity, kindness, heroism, strength and generosity. We did it, Humboldt. 2021 is almost here. Hang in there, we’ve got this. Here’s to better days ahead! #sheriff #humboldt #deputies #community #heretohelp
