Upwelling takes a dive into the alluring mysteries of the ocean with underwater recordings, poetry, song, and modern dance exploring the strength of feminine forces. With an original sound score by @Joe Krempetz, allow the auditory and visual journey to leave your heart full of wonder and with the impulse to save our seas. The Secrets of the Trees: Inspired by the book The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohleben, this piece blossomed into an affirmation of our interdependence. Drawing inspiration from Standing Rock and other political actions, and books like Blessed Unrest and Radical Ecology, the performers have woven together a story of struggle and hope in a harrowing time. Touching on themes of socialism, competition, set-back, and rebirth, The Secrets of the Trees is a circus, dance, and theatrical critique of capitalism and greed told through the eyes of the forest as they struggle for survival in the Anthropocene.

Dear Humans- Our show will NOT be cancelled tonight. However, some of you may be concerned about COVID-19, and we understand. We encourage you to take the following precautions. The CDC recommends these measures: - avoid close contact with people who are sick - avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth... - stay home when you are sick - cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue (the CDC recommends disposable tissues, but so long as you wash you hands after touching your tissue and don't use it for anything else a bandana should be fine) - frequently clean regularly touched objects - wear a face mask if you want to when healthy, but it's really only keeping you from touching your nose and mouth. The recommendation is for folks who are sick to wear face masks. - WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer Here are the steps we are taking to prevent the spread of pathogens at Dance Mission: - sanitizing commonly touched surfaces like door knobs and counters before guests arrive - using gloves at concessions - getting rid of unnecessary things that are handed from person to person like physical programs and tickets (we will have digital programs and will be using stamps instead of physical tickets) - providing hand sanitizer Please note that COVID-19 poses a FAR SMALLER RISK to humanity than Climate Change. We are still committed to making the art we are called to make and sharing the message we are moved to share around climate change and humanity's impact on nature in spite of this viral outbreak that health organizations still consider to be mostly on par with the regular influenza virus (which is a type of corona virus). If you are feeling sick and want to stay home, we are happy to transfer your ticket to another night or another person. Unfortunately, as this has been a huge financial undertaking for us, we are unable to offer refunds at this time.
